It will be good to see another S on the grid!
Brings back memories of mine being stripped.
Where are you based?
If you need any pointers let me know. It's a long hard road but well worth the effort. I'd do a few things differently if I was starting again but you're always learning and tweaking. Regarding driver training, I'd strongly advise getting a lot of track days in. You will need to get comfortable with cars being around you and things like use of flags etc.
Also I'd focus on getting the cage in as a starting point. Custom Cages are good but need a lot of work, but there's also a guy called Matt at MEC Fabricaiton who has done most of the VTC cages. https://www.facebook.com/pages/MEC-I...td/16460835244
Could you possibly weigh your HT? I never managed to check mine and always wondered...

Based near Cardiff in South Wales,
Thanks, that would be a great help, that is the plan, first one will hopefully be soon at castle Combe, £170 a full day unlimited track time + free instruction lessons,
I was going to fit coil overs first but I may go with the cage now you said just to get it out of the way and it would be the best starting point, are you using the custom cages 6 point? as this is the one I plan to go with, and I will definitely be contacting MEC I have been looking for someone to fit it and they are not to far from me, cheers.
Yeh I will do it when I get back from work tonight, I am also bagging all the sound deadening as I remove and weighing that, if that's of help to anyone,

MB - the roof is weighing in at 18.5kg that is striped with no latches or levers, done on a digital weighing scale in the bathroom so may be a little out. I have ordered Izzy race hard top brackets which I can't imagine weighing much as their aluminium,
Also I spoke with MEC today and they are not currently taking on any cage work, so they referred me to Sean at Rally weld fabrications (http://www.rallyweld.com) popped up there this evening and its great place, proper old school garage and he's a great guy to speak to and was interested in doing the honda which I liked, as he normaly works with fords, not only that but its 5 minutes from work.
A quick question on the custom cages, I am going to phone them tomorrow, but when he fitted them to a few other cars in the past, he said he had to video record his welds and send them to custom cages for approval, does anyone know if this still has to be done as he weren't to keen on it? soon as I clarify this the car will be booked in for a 6 point.

Hi,
Nice project! Look forward to your updates!
I have a custom cages cage waiting to be fitted to my car. They a send 3 sample pieces of pipe with the kit and instructions on how they should be welded. You (or the person carrying out the work) weld them up as per instructions and send them back to custom cages who will test and issue certificate if its up to standard.
Just a note on the discs, i cracked mine. I never knew the make but they look exactly like the ones you have fitted. I use carbotech XP8 pads and they cracked during my fastest session to date. They had had a fair bit of abuse on previous trackdays so should be fine for learning, but as you get quicker and really start to lean on the brakes hard i would recommend a change.

Currently there's me and also a guy called Andy who has a Production spec S2000 which has done a few races although I think he's selling it.
Thanks for the roof weight, good info. I might go for a carbon one on mine soon as I need to get more weight out! Mine will be a few kg lighter as I've got Lexan rear screen.
RE the cage, you don't need it to be certified to pass scrutineering. Mine is but you will never be asked for it and they just do a visual on it. Mine is the T45 one. it is heavy but I'd rather have as much protection as possible. The only gripe I have with it is that it's pretty hard getting in and out of the car compared to a saloon car.

That's good news to me on the Cage MB, in that case I am going to weld it in myself with the help of my bamp, might take me a while but it will save me over £700 labor costs, I will be ordering the 6 point custom cages cage when I get back from the states at the end of the month, I will do a full DIY on it as well for anyone who wants to keep the cost down who plans to do this sort of thing,
Thanks Jonathan, I tried to join the VTC forum a week back, still waiting for a confirmation email do you know how long it takes to be accepted?
