I quite fancy a spin at this. Has anyone seen any good DIY guides to race prepping S2000s? Like double throttle return springs etc / ignition cut off etc ?

I've got a friend who's big into hill climbing at the moment, he does Loton Park and Shelsley Walsh and he really enjoys it.

As I do track days he's always trying to get me to do hill climbing too. I try and get him to track days although the one time he did come along he blew his engine up within ten minutes......

I can't bring myself to try hill climbing because at ~£100 for the entry per day you get just two practice runs in the morning, (sometimes one or two more if you're lucky), and then two timed runs in the afternoon totaling less than four minutes driving throughout the whole day! I know I'd enjoy the driving if I gave it a go, but the time/cost vs distance travelled puts me off, I'd rather do ~150 miles a day around a track. Plus you need all the FIA approved clothing to enter which isn't cheap if you have to buy it all together in one go.

They do hill climb Schools every so often which I have been tempted by. You get around ten runs in a day at these and you only need a crash helmet, but nothing's timed.

I did the Hillclimb school at Prescott many years ago with my Caterham, when it was run by the late, great Roy Lane, and had a fantastic day.

It's a different experience, and quite full-on if you're trying hard. If you get the chance, go for it.

As to hillclimbing itself, I keep meaning to go to another event. Prescott is wonderful, but a bit of a trek. Gurston is much closer for me. I really should make the effort, because the range of machinery at a hillclimb is eclectic, to say the least.

The red one was damaged just after I took the photo, she lost it on one of the corners, the front bumper was hanging off and the sill behind the front wheel was dented. After some repairs, and lots of tape it was out on track again later.

Rob.
