s2000 damage

had someone drive into the front side of my s2000 while it was parked on the road, taking out the front bumper and damaging the front wing panel, during the initial chat with my insurers and describing the damage to them they told me that the system was showing that this could be a potential write off:eek: ?? , surely not eh?can anyone advise on the cost of repair, the car is on 124k miles ,yr2000.

The pics are quite small but from quick glance it looks like worst case you'll need $400 fender, $372 bumper, paint & labor.

KBB estimates a value of $8k, so I highly doubt that damage is going to write it off

Our friend from Montana obviously doesn't know how UK insurance companies work. At his estimate of $8k that's around £6250, a year 2000 S2k costs around £5000 so defiantly a write off with those numbers. your only hope of keeping it is either withdraw the claim (very difficult) or buy it back from them, but it will always be registered as a write off in old money a CATC or D.
Sorry to be so negative but that's how it works, I guess you are looking at £2500 to get it fixed yourself.

I remember when I had some very light damage to my front bumper and the insurance told me that alone was going to be £2,000.00 to replace!

find silverstone wing and bumper from wreckers (there are plenty in UK) and get it fixed outside of insurance... its minor damage to get write off.

This happened to mine
https://cimg4.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.s2k...9c54de92cd.jpg

in fricking June... still not fixed, parts are a nightmare to get, car needed a pull to straighten front panel, new bumper, lip, headlight, paint across front.. £thousands

i would get a settlement from the insurers and fix yourself as Milo describes. A wing will likely need paint and blending to adjacent panels though, yours may be repairable

in hindsight i wish i'd just asked for £2k and fixed it with used parts

I agree with what guys above said: "get a settlement from the insurers and fix yourself".

Tbh with Silverstone being the most numerous and the wing not looking too bad id buy a used SS bumper and then touch up, small sand and polish the wing. Then you could get a paint-less dent repair specialist to take out the small dent on wing, could cost circa £200 depending on dent repair. Soldering iron weld on the inner arch and away you go.

If you just wanted a quick job soldering iron weld the front bumper and the inner arch, touch up and away you go.

Yeah, just hit the 'New Posts' link and didn't pay attention to location

Interesting with mine the other party insurance never suggested that.

They told my body shop don't spend more than a certain amount but I think the light is c£700, bumper and lip similar money then paint of wings, bumper, bonnet would be same again, plus the straighten out work it will be £2.5k plus. Car only has 40k on though. And about 6k of mods :)

thanks for all the input guys, engineer coming in the morning to assess the damage, have to accept they'll likely write it off , not sure about taking on the repair myself guess depends on what the insurance say and pay out, i'll have alot to think about these next few days:eek::scratch:
