S2000 Speedo not working
#13
Just went out and the the following things:
Disconnect the battery, shake the wire under the hood on drive side (where 3 wire connect to the metal box), Connect the battery back.
Now the speedo works again ! ! !
Im not sure if its the "Disconnect the battery" trick works or "Shaking wire" tricks work.
Dont think its the sensor as it will be not working even I did this tricks?
Please correct me if I am wrong. I am very confuse now.
lol

This.
My JDM has had a few problems with the converter and its exactly the same thing.
Speedo stops working (usuaully when in an average speed limit!) then Warning Light comes on.
Turn off and wait 5 mins and it comes back on.
I'm getting mine sorted at the weekend, also confuses the f@#k out of the fuel gauge.

Any idea how yours got fixed? My JDM has started doing this too. Car had been sitting for a while and the battery had run down. Needed a booster pack to start it. Now my speedo is acting up along with my EPS. All advice welcome!!

Having seen this recently there’s several things to check;
- speed sensor in the gearbox
- confirm the ground to the sensor is good (common one in the back of the engine)
- inspect the signal wire to the Ecu (spliced with converter or dry joint)
- yellowbox/Apexi VAFC / Neo. Check and/or remove wiring to confirm all connections good.
Hopefully Ray will be along to clear things up further.

I had this problem while running in my engine rebuild so jumped to conclusions and thought it must be something i'd disturbed while i had the engine stripped,
The first thing i did was to check the earth at the rear of the head just in case i hadn't jacked it up enough, this was ok so trying to cut corners and because i couldn't be arsed to get my test gear i swap the speed sensor for the one of my spare box, still the same, then swap my yellow jacket for a know good one which i have fitted because of the diff ratio change
Time to get the test gear out and after a quick read up it seems the ecu checks the system on a deceleration between 2 and 4 thou rpm this fitted in with the light coming on when slowing for a junction and after reading the freeze frame data on the scanner it triggered the fault code with closed throttle at 2400rpm,, so i went through all the tests , 5v at the feed wire all good, then signal out of the speed sensor while spinning a wheel all good, earth all good, signal wire back at ecu all good but this threw me for a bit as this meant the ecu had a fault which i didn't want to believe then i remembered that with my being a JDM it had an Apexi thingy on for the speed limiter so i promptly removed it and restored the wiring back to original, this promptly fixed the problem , so that's now in the bin
