S2000 V New Civic JDM type R

A roof down S has terrible aerodynamics - this would have a noticeable effect on the straights, where the Type R appeared to have an advantage.
The Type R in white is a great looking car - and with four doors, really practical too.
Another great product range decision by Honda UK not to bring it in...

Apparently (and I'm quoting someone on here), the power to the wheels is lower on the S2000 due to losses through the transmission to the rear wheels
Soft - top was so high on my list of priorities I would have bought the S2000 anyway.

Doubt it, from my investigations most everything suggests that the car is marginally quicker round a track than a DC5 and just as quick as an S2k but it's unknown if there's any appreciable difference.
This bit looks like a publicity stunt to get the new CTR moving, not that they need to try hard.

You can't always trust what you see on BestMotoring.
Although I think the FD2 is quicker on track than the S2K - Tsukuba lap time is really quick for a FF 2.0 IIRC.

Yep the power at the wheels figure will be around the same, as you lose a few % more through the RWD drivetrain, due to weight and length of the prop etc.
S2000 is around 190 atw, id guess the civic to be the same.
Having owned a DC5, what it can do is incredible for FWD and the light weight combined with those huge Brembo's make it trackable out the box. I did feel hampered a little at the Ring compared to the S, as it just couldn't quite corner as well or get the power down - but that's just being a little picky.
Best Motoring and other shows dont tend to let much beat the S or NSX

An interesting outcome, but not all that surprising tbh.
When you think about it you would expect a brand new hot hatch to be able to perform as well as a 9 year old roadster. It's been said on here many a time before. The S is starting to show it's age, and with any luck Honda has a suitable replacement up it's sleeve. If this new Type R is anything to go by it should be a cracker
My fondness for the new JDM Civic Type R has gone up yet another notch.
