Default S2K front brakes

Hello All,

Thanks for the warm welcome.

Just driving the S to Cornwall and noticed a slight whistle from the drivers side front brake that disappears for a bit when I touch the brake. Have read a lot about siezed calipers and the wheel does seem to be hotter than the passenger side. There is no real resistance when I come to a halt in neutral.

I am hoping to strip the front calipers as a precaustion as I am a carchondric and would like to sort it before a problem arises.

Am hoping to clean up the piston and grease it up with silicone grease whilstI'm at it.

Could anyone please offer any advice on the best way of doing it? Will the brakes need bleeding if I remove the pistons? Do they need a special tool to wind them in?

Thanks in advance guys!

Matt

Sounds like the wear indicators on the pads to me.

Matt not wanting to be horrible to you but do you really think that it would be a wise idea to do your own brakes if you have to ask if you need to bleed your brakes after removing the pistons?

You are dealing with ‘Brakes’ here so a fairly important item which imo should be touched by someone who knows what they are doing - sorry.

Thats fine, no offence taken. Have removed and replaced calipers before on other cars but just want to cover all angles. Just want to know if fluid is prone to leaking past the pistons, what parts needed and quirks which I may experience with these specific brakes.

However, if it is a large job it will be done by a professional!

You can buy a Honda refurb kit with all new seals and grease, and yes of course you'll have to bleed the brakes. The fronts pistons just push in, but the rears need to be wound.

I would inspect the brakes before stripping the calipers unnecessarily.

I agree with the above, if you need to ask about bleeding the brakes the job might be better left to someone that knows what they're doing.

We've all got to start somewhere though...

Will strip them down tomorrow for an inspection. I am a naval engineer by trade so sure it won't be too bad!

Cheers
