Default S2k newbie looking for some info

Hi guys

I'm Tom, based in London.

I'm looking to get an S2000 as a project car to eventually become a track car and was after some information.

From what I understand the engines are all around the same power? Is there any differences between the years?

Are the gear ratios and the final drive all the same across models?

What's the difference with the GT? Does the GT roof fit a non-GT? (Looking for a hardtop to help with scrutineering etc.

Any and all info is much appreciated.

Cheers in advance

Tom

Welcome to the board, first and foremost read the sticky threads, they'll answer many of your questions.

Since you are in the UK, it may be better for you to post your questions in their regional forum, as you will get replies specific to the vehicles available in your region.

For example, in the states we got AP1 (2.0l engine 9k RPM redline) and AP2 (2.2l engine 8k RPM redline), while I believe in the UK you only have the 2.0l. As far as I know, all the engines are exactly the same as far as power output is concerned. There were some small changes made through the years, but nothing so major that it would discourage me from any specific year.

I believe the gear ratios for all year S2000's should be the same, I've never heard different years or models having different gear ratios... this may differ in the UK.

I'm not 100% sure the difference between the GT and non-GT vehicles (those do not exist in the states, here we had the regular S2000 and the CR), but the hardtop fits any year S2000 (as long as you also purchase the hardtop hardware kit).

Good luck with your search for an S2000

  • GTs originally came with hard top and fitting kit but they may have been removed
  • All UK and European spec S2000s are AP1 with F20C2 engine.
  • AP2 had revised gear ratios
Have a look at the links posted above. Most of it applies with UK cars.
