Default Seized rear caliper

Stopped at the shops earlier after about a 8 mile drive and could smell burning, got out and smoke was pouring off the rear right wheel. Seems like the caliper is seized and staying on the brakes.

Is this common? I'm gonna strip it down and try freeing it up later.

I think the rear calipers are the same as the rover 600 / Honda Accord ?

Try taking the pads out and cleaning everything up, then extend the piston (carefully, use a block of wood to prevent it going too far). Clean up the piston edges by easing the rubber seal back and retract it. Hopefully this will sort things out for you

I had one rear wheel getting warm and the above procedure repeated twice has sorted it

Cheers for the pics Nick, similar to the Rover ones I'm used to.

Took it apart (Very easy surprisingly, was expecting one bolt to be seized) and the rubber seal is knackered. Probably some past monkey, crap has probably got in and cause it to seize. Will try and free it up in short term but looks like it will need a rebuild / new caliper

Cheers

Almost looks like it might have melted, or something.

They are buggers to get out, so maybe someone butchered it.
