Default Service Time

Car serviced this morning, oil, filter, plugs, K&N air filter, and a quick check under car, checked brakes etc less than 2 hours, next weekend it's gearbox and diff oil changes, but I need a new trolley jack for that. Honest dear it's cheaper for me to get a new jack than get a garage to do it, honest !!!.
I was a little concerned about doing the the plugs but no problems there either, the worst thing about the whole service was getting the spark plugs out (Blue tack anyone), and refilling with oil. I now have a special S2000 funnel, perhaps I can sell it to Honda for £50 .

I used Castrol edge 5W40 Turbo Diesel, a genuine Honda filter, and used a £6 filter cup from ebay, to get my 7/8th's of a turn. Although the car was serviced about 4 months ago by the previous owner at a Honda garage, I dont believe they used fully synthetic oil. The plugs definitely needed a change, as did the air filter. It's done 27K, and I dont think it had ever been changed.

Took it out for a quick blast, I couldn't tell any difference in performance with the K&N, but there is a slight increase in induction roar.

All in less than £130 including the K&N, I think Honda would have charged in excess of £400, as they wanted £550 for a 6 year service, the only things extra would have been gearbox and diff oil change. I picked up a suction oil pump from the local auto factor so filling them next weekend shouldnt be to much of a drama.

So happy days all round, bring on the sun.

Nice one. You definitely saved yourself some drinking tokens there. I would do the same to mine next year but im reluctant to forgo the fhsh, not that it really makes any difference I guess. I just source the oil/plugs etc from elsewhere and get Honda to fit them to keep the costs down, that way I get to maintain the history with a stamp in the book and keep a few quid on the wallet.

Finally finished the full service after a couple of additional hours this morning changing the Gearbox and Differential oil, now who would have thought Mr Honda would use a 23mm filling plug on the diff., a quick trip to Halfords and a combination spanner purchased and job finally finished.
Tools required 24 mm socked diff drain plug. 23mm combination spanned diff filling plug. 3/8" drive ratchet square to remove the gearbox drain plug, and a 17mm combination for the filling plug.

Service items used
Differential oil Motul 90 PA Lubricant limited slip differential (LSD) Extreme pressure used approx 800ml
Gearbox Motul Gear 300 75W-90 Racing gearbox and differential lubricant 100% Synthetic, used approx 1.5litres
Engine Castrol edge 5W40 TD, used approx 5 litres
Plugs NGK Spark Plug PFR7G-11S (Opie Ref: 7772) -4 pack
K&N air filter K&N E-2435 High Flow Replacement Air Filter -single
Oil Filter Honda 15400PCX004
Refilling the gearbox and differential was a doddle I purchased something similar to
Oil suction puller

I was hoping that the gearbox oil change would make initial gearchanges better, however Im afraid to say it's still a bit notchy until hot, when it's as smooth as ever.

All in all a good weekends work.

out of interest why did you use turbo diesel oil?

no turbo diesel is designed to do 9k RPM so surely it wont cope with the revs a s2000 engine uses?

Read opie oils (Oilmans) FAQ's about oils and it'll give you a good idea of the sciences.
