Default Should I buy a 2008 S2000 with 50k miles?

Hi all,

Looking for some help, if you don't mind. I've been to see an 08 registered s2000 with 50k miles on the clock.

I previously knew about the issues with the '09 cars (thrust bearing?) - but have just read that the ''08 cars are also affected?

I was then hoping that the car might have been built in late 2007 and registered early in 08 (which it was - in March) but I have checked the VIN (on a random VIN checker i found via Google) and its showing as a 2008 built car.

It has the V3 wheels which would also suggest a 2008 build.

As the car has done 50k, is it likely that any issues have been out-lived? Or could it be on the brink?!....

It's the perfect spec and ideally i'd like to drive it home tomorrow but I can wait for another if needs be.

Any help much appreciated!

Cheers,

Lew

Yeah, I hear you!

But, about the potential catastrophic engine failure?.....

I've recently bought an 09 with 14k on the clock. I just made sure I have a Honda warranty for the next 4 years.

If it's reached 50k miles then it's likely the problem would have surfaced by now.

The VIN number will give the year of manufacture. From my own experience, the extended warranty is well worth it! But by 50k any faults would have surfaced by now.

I don't see any mechanical issues just from model year and miles. My '06 just rolled over 50K miles here in Ohio and I don't expect any problems for another 150K miles based on experiences posted here.

The North American cars with the "big" engine and drive-by-wire are noted for tight valves this year and probably later. Not sure if this applies to the 2.0 engines but a couple of tedious hours in your driveway one morning with a $10 set of feeler gauges and valve adjustment tool (combination wrench and screwdriver) cures that. The rest is scheduled maintenance. The DBW cars can be tuned for some startling mid-range power using Hondata FlashPro.

Not sure what besides wheels changed from '06/'07 to '08. V3 wheels are model year '08 to end of production.

All comes down to price and these cars seem to be maintaining this if unaltered.

Chuck,

08/09 cars in the uk use the 2.0l engine, so your experiences are irrelevant here. Have a read of this to learn about the problems the OP is referring to: https://www.s2ki.com/forums/uk-irela...owners-876045/

My 02 exploded at 144k miles, FWIW.
