Snapped rear drop link
 

After getting a strange squeaking noise from the rear, I found a snapped rear drop link as per picture:

Is this a fairly perishable item? It looks as though it was just held on by plastic tabs, which seems unusual for something which sees quite a bit of stress...

I had a quick go at undoing the nuts, however once I had "cracked" it, the shaft then just span around inside the bush.
Is there any way of captivating the shaft to allow removal?
I can't think of another way of removing the bolt as it's recessed into the arm so I dont' think it'll be accessible with a hacksaw and the nut has a raised edge so I don't think I'll be able to split it either.

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated as I'm not too keen to go to a dealer for something that should be fairly simple.

Part is £50 for the Honda part. I'd do them all - if one has gone the rest won't be far away.

I had mine done last year - MY2000, 95k miles. The bolts were seized on and they needed to be removed for bushes work.

There is a hole in the end of the threaded part to push an allen key in so you can stop it spinning. It will be rusted, WD40 and gently tap it in. Good luck.

There was someone doing two for £25 on bay the other day IIRC. ;)

Shopman, I did have a look at the shaft but it was really really rusty and hiding any signs of entry! I'll go and have another look with a torch now :thumbup:

I'll keep my eyes peeled for another set :)

I'll be bloody amazed if you manage to get it off without resorting to chopping it out.

That's pretty shocking.

Wire brush the exposed bit of the stud, and attack with WD40/Plus Gas. Allen key in the end as others have said, but chances are it'll round off. I did one of mine by using a file to create flats on the sides and then gripping with mole grips.

Dembo / Loftust - I think the top nut will be do-able with crows feet and some choice swear words now it's been loosened. I'll also leave it for a good soak in WD40 overnight as suggested.

The bottom one does look pretty rounded off already and even seems like a slightly different size too, no doubt a hacksaw / hammer / bigger hammer will persuade it to part company with the arm :LOL:

Now would be a great time to buy some uprated ARBs. Then you won't have to bother undoing the top ones. ;)
