This weekend I plan to give my brake calipers a spruce up. I have a kit that includes brake cleaner, paint, masking tape etc.
Could do with some tips. I'm thinking of painting them without removing them them as I heard they can be a bit of a pain to get off, especially the rears. So that would involve masking off the discs etc. but how do you then get to the back of them (or do you bother ?).

Is there a technique for getting a decent finish with one of these kits ?

Could really do with some images of completed ones and work in progress if anyone can post any pics. ?

There must be 100 Youtube videos on how to do this! Heck, even the Mighty Car Mods lads have an episode on it. Your kit should have instructions. Mine are black. They stop better than those painted red.

RUBBISH! red brakes are seen on racing cars so MUST work better! (historically red meant hot, don't touch for the pit crews who were often unpaid volunteers)

And yes easy and relaxing job if it's not pissing down, just use a smallish brush and don't skimp on the cleaning. And if you have OCD take the pads out.

And why bother painting the back? your only painting them so they look pretty so just paint the bit you can see.

I did buy the red one as it said on the box it was the top spec ;-)

I think I'm going to enjoy connecting with the suppressed artist in me....

Just make sure they are clean (remove dirt and surface rust) use brake cleaner and wire brush. And paint what you can see Inc carriers. Avoid non brake parts such as rubber boots etc!

I'd use something like halfords smooth paint as hammerite doesn't give an oem look finish.

The brakes do look better with a logo in my opinion such as s2000.

Yellow just goes to prove that Hondas Nissen calipers are really made of cheese (Gromit).

I painted mine so they didn't look like crap from years exposure. I painted them Black so they would not be visible -- certainly not highlighted.

They're brake calibers, not jewelry. I don't intend to touch mine and the car is not a race car. Nor am I driving it to high school.
