Speaker issues, time to replace/upgrade?

I have a problem with a tweeter that's buzzing, popping and crackling. It's getting to a stage where I don't want to have the radio on so I don't have to hear it.

It appears to be the left hand tweeter that is making all the wrong noises. At a closer inspection it looks like a previous owner might have changed these as you can pull them through the door without any effort in act the other day when a passengers closed the door it fell out.

So would it be a good idea to upgrade the tweeters since one of them is bust or is it better to replace with OEM ones as i will be keeping the OEM HU?

Also are they supposed to have some sort of bracket holding the tweeters to the door panel? or should you be able to pull them through?

Don't know if it makes a difference but my car is a 2001 AP1 model (pictures to come)

It appears those tweeters are an add on by a previous owner, they're not oem. Thus, it probably doesn't matter what you replace it with but it's probably worth changing both sides.

Try Impulse in Watford http://www.impulsecar.co.uk/

Thanks simon for the info, interestingly i just spoke to a local audio specialist who asked me what my budget was, i said 250 and he said 250 won't make any difference and quoted 1000.

Maybe i'm out of touch with costs but if that's what it's gonna costjust for a speaker upgrade then maybe i'll stick with the originals and put up with the bass farting.

Impulse just fitted my head unit, amp (over the fuel tank), sound deadening and new speakers for about £250. I also purchased some excellent Hertz speakers for £230.

Are you wanting to just upgrade the speakers and use the original head unit?

Yes the original head unit is fine as i still use cd's it was purely just the door speakers i wanted to change as anything with a bit of bass cranked up over 20 isn't pleasant.

Changing the speakers won't really make that much of an improvement. A head unit change is the first thing to do, but it can get expensive (and I should know!).

thanks for the info
