Speakers stopped working

Driving to work this morning & the speakers died. No radio or CD.
The A/C was off.

When I turn the ignition on the speakers do that regular 'click' sound.

They are after market speakers - fitted by a previous owner - tweeters fitted in the door too.
Could it be a crossover??

Any clue????

PS. I'm an ICE dummy!

I dont get a click from my speakers :thinker:

Headunit kaput or loose ISO connector (if your headunits aftermarket)
Short to earth on the speaker wiring loom

Wip out the HU and take a looksee

The headunit is the standard Honda job; seems to be all ok, lights up as usual, all the buttons work etc.

The speakers are 'component Alpine SPS17' apparently (I got this info from the original advert).

Where would the speaker wiring loom earth be?

You'll have to take the door panels off an check to see if the wiring isnt chaffing on some metalwork and grounding out.

Also check the postioning of the crossover - my guess it's been positioned in the bottom of the door and it's now slightly soggy.

The loom earth would be behind the stereo You might be able to get a hand to it from the drivers side panel(next to your left knee), if not you will need to take stereo out! Its fairly easy as you should have it out in 5 mins..

Nice one, Thanks

I dont get a click either.

I have alpines in the front, JLB's in the rear though :)

Didnt Ian have some similar problem a while back and it was something to do with wiring?

The 'click' is that sound that speakers made on old hi-fis when they were switched on, come to think about it - my car never did it (my home hi-fi does).

I presume it isn't a crossover, otherwise the other speaker would work?

I suspect wiring... shortly before the sound went dead, the volume dipped & then went louder.

Ian - any advice??
