Cheers guys

i have a vid to upload of Cadwell when we done the Time Attack test day in March it was damp but dried out that day but there was some big power cars on track 800+ evo's and so on at the same time so i let them all by as it was a test day and not door to door racing

i think the one BMW the 330d was a Touring (estate) had used it a drift practice as he was just flicking it everywhere and smoking the place out but all good fun

i will let you know how i get on with the place at a Rockingham track day

A Free weekend at Snetterton anyone from here going
Borough 19 Motor Club come to Snetterton for a 2-day summer sprint this weekend (23-24 June) on the 100 circuit with spectators welcomed to come watch for free.Sprinting is entry level motorsport, where drivers in all classes of cars are striving to drive the perfect lap on the fast but demanding 100 circuit. The essence of sprinting is driver ability and car control, getting the best out of your vehicle. Cars start singly and compete on a tarmac surface track against the clock. Whilst this removes the potential for collision damage, it does not detract from the euphoria of speed for speed's sake. This year we welcome the competitors in the MSA British Sprint Championship where reigning champion Heather Calder is defending her title. For the first time we also have drivers from the Guernsey Car Club who are bringing their mighty V8 sand racers to the Norfolk countryside.Classes range from the Standard Production through the Kit cars and modified, up to out and out racing cars.

A lot of fun had this weekend at Aintree. 1st & 2nd places in class went to the S2000's again over the MX5's. With it being a blisteringly hot day, times suffered in the afternoon but plenty of PB's and some records were made by drivers. I say it every time, but what a great way to spend a day.

Quick update to the blog if anyone is interested.

AS Mike said great fun last Sat, i spent the day short shifting,(when i could remember) till i get time to investigate the engine, if it gets any worse then i'll park it up but it seems to be about the same after the sprint, even though i was being a bitcautious i manged to get within less than a tenth of my PB, Mike well he just blew everyone away with a PB and very close to the class record, I'm at Barbon Hillclimb this Sat and looks like another nice weekend weather wise which is a bit different than last year when it rained ether in the morning or afternoon session nearly every meet,

My best timed run of the day,

this one is from morning practice and shows the bump on beachers bend just as you turn in if you get the line wrong,

Barbon Hillclimb 7-7-18,

The day was a bit of a mixed bag, set of early doors 5.15 but this time on my lonesome as Mike had family commitments which meant he had to duck out of this round, i was well off my previous pace from June but without Mike there ended up leading the class, then a bumped into the car in front while lining up for the start which squashed my timing strut and resulted in me having to get out to straighten it in front of the crowd that stands next to the tyre warming area, , it was exceptionally hot and being in black overalls in a black car didn't help, but the marshals were great and had a very welcome supply of bottled water to hand out at the top of the hill,
At the end of the timed runs i ended up with my first win for 2 years my last one being the first sprint we all did, i never matched my PB from the first time at Barbon but it was still a lot of fun, On to Loton park this Sat the 14th and back with my racing buddy (who will no doubt thrash me again,,,,,Hmm maybe he should go on hols more often )

Video of my last run with a big pussy lift into turn 2

Loton Park Hillclimb 14-7-18

This was are 2nd visit to this venue which is regarded as one of the most technical climbs in the country, last time i was here i was placed 8th with a base PB of 64.45 so the aim was just to improve on my time,
on arrival and checking out our class of 13 cars i though i maybe in with a chance of 5th or 6th as a few of the fast regulars weren't competing, so after walking the course and signing on it was into practice (time goes so quick even when you think you have arrived early) so off up the hill i had fitted my 16" wheel with the A052's even though they were nearly done i just feel more confident on them as opposed to the R888's so i think i'll up load them at some point , anyway line and get a not to good a start and end up with a 65.04 which is slower than my PB but 2sec faster than my first ever run here and put me third fastest, Mike was straight in with a 63 something so well on the pace for a first run,

on to 2nd practice, this time i put in a 63.55 which was an unofficial PB and 3rd fastest in our group, Mike dropped his time to 62.82 which was also a PB for him, then we had to wait for the rest of the competitors and an hours lunch break,

i tend to go off the boil a bit and my first timed run came in at 63.60 a tad slower than practice but now an official PB mike had a few slippery moments and came in with a time of 63.62 a nats bollock slower than me which put me into 2nd in class, this now meant than we were both being headed by a regular in an MX5,

Now the last run of the day and all to play for so i set off with a good start kept my nerve around the complex then down to triangle, WTF it's all gone quiet and i've got no engine breaking nearly overshot the corner with panic setting in realised i'd shoved it in 4th instead of 2nd you tit head so quickly found the right gear and off we went all the way up the hill cursing my self thinking it was going to be in the high 65s crossed the line then have to wait a few yards for the time and to my surprise it was a 63,48 my fastest time of the day and placed me 3rd in class which i though was pretty awesome for Loton then it dawned on me i had missed an opportunity to dip into the 62s and snatch 2nd as Mike was back to his old self and knocked well over a sec of his PB to claim the win, ah well we are back here the 4th and 5th of Aug,

Vid of my last run ,

Scammonden dam hill climb 22-7-18

This was a great Sunday hillclimb, we had 4 S2000's booked in our class of 8 cars Myself Mike, Matthew Rowe and LJ Earley who joined us for the first time this year (don't leave it so long next time dude)

Mike came away with the win and a new official class record Matt came home 2nd with LJ grabbing 3rd i came home 4th i just couldn't get my head around it for some reason and at one point thought i was going to have a trip up the embankment, although it's a short course it's the steepest climb in the UK and Lee did a great job on his first trip to the hill,

next up is a double header weekend at Loton on the 4th and 5th of Aug,

Quick vid of my wayward run

Like Daytona Dave says this was my first competitive event in the S2000 this year and only my 2nd ever hill climb; the other being Llys-y-fran in South Wales last year.

None of the videos you will see convey just how steep the gradient is at Scammonden, I've ran up it on foot before and needed three stops to get my breath back
I was lucky as the only tyres I have are the pretty fantastic Toyo R1R, not the best after they get hot but ideal for a hill climb from cold on a roughish tarmac surface.
The two champs Rowe n Thomson were busy exchanging blows but I was quite happy churning out identical launches, and set three times within 0.05 of each other so was Mr Consistent :-D

Unfortunately for Daytona Dave he was eeking out the last bits of grip from his A052s and just couldnt get much purchase up 't brew as they call it, so I managed to sneak ahead for 3rd place in class!

Mike almost beat his previous time with a blistering 27.18 vs 27.12 both (MT)unreal times

My best of the day was a 28.02, just couldn't get under the elusive 28 secs, but will be back again on 18th August to try again - it's very addictive!
Difficult to know if the clip will work as You Tube is banned here at work sorry!!

Loton Park Hillclimb Sat 4th Aug.

Well i don't really know where to start but the day didn't pan out as i expected, I was looking forward to a nice relaxed weekend of competing,
First off we usually set out at 05.30 the roads are clear and we always make good time and reckon we could start out 1/2 hour later and still be in plenty of time to walk the track sign on etc, so this Morning off we went at 06.00, Big mistake massive mistake almost immediately we hit traffic and that's the way it stayed all the way to the venue, everything from cattle trucks, horse boxes, lines of artics and the 25 mph brigade in a 60 a very frustrating drive which meant we arrived with just enough time to prep the cars sign and wait for the scrutineer and put up with folk moaning they wanted more room at this point i'd wished i'd stayed at home the scrut was on it from the start i couldn't make out if he didn't like S2000's or just me but he picked at everything from a chip in my windscreen to the mounting on my camera even my breather pipe on how it was secured all things that had being perfectly OK for the last 3 years, anyway he let me compete so long as addressed all the problems before the next meet phew,

So on to first practice and i thought take it steady on my first run of the day as we had only being here twice before and it's quite an intimidating track, off i set looking at setting a reasonable base time for the day then at the top off the hill there can be a lot of time to be had by getting the braking right to to a fairly long left-hander and with it being practice i thought i'd see how late i could leave my braking, well i soon found out that i can't leave it that late

On to practice, set off nice and steady determined to get it right then just after triangle i had brain fade and dropped the n/s front wheel off the track which is quite narrow and ended up nearly spiting off on the o/s side as it lurched back on track and it's off down the embankment and day over but luckily it correct it's self and i carried on with my tail between my now shaking like crazy legs so that was another run down the pan ,

the off's never look that bad on video but with a 3in drop off either side of the track and with it being an ex army base all the lumps and bumps you see are the footings left over from the buildings that were on site so if you go too far it's game over,

Right that's out of the way so settle down for lunch and chill for a bit , Mike's dad gets the chips in and we sit down chatting about the day , the next thing we know we are being called for our first timed run shit whats going on i arn't ready, it turns out there was a marriage taking place at the church just down the road so there was to be no running through the ceremony, my goal for the day was to beat my PB from last time which was a 63.48, quickly throw my gear on and line up after poor practice runs i needed to set a a good time without any grass tracking , i get to the top and cross the line at 64.57 over a sec off my PB but at least i got a time and it put me 4th in class behind a father and son double drive in an MX5,
Right now time to chill as it would be well over an hour before my final run of the day, at this point i'm sure i had a nap then it was all go again with the paddock waking up and engines starting ready for the next run, all day my 64ft launch had being in the 2.5's, i was determined to get it down so i tyre warmed before the run and sat waiting for the green light, on she came i took a sec to compose myself raised the revs and dropped the clutch and off we went it felt a nice run not on the edge and well in control it felt very uneventful but i crossed the line with a 63.04 and a new PB and my launch 2.30 the best of the day, i was convinced i'd sneaked into 3rd only to be dashed by a MK2 escort and a twin charged 1.4 scirroco so came away with a 5th in class out of 23, mixed feelings for the day a pb but now know i could go faster if i stop grass tracking,

Now off to the B&B and relax ready for tomorrow

Vid of my PB,
