Default sticking caliper

Hi
Both my front brakes were sticking.so I bought 2 refurb piston kits and they are fine now. Now my rear left wheel is covered in brake dust and the alloy gets really hot.the garage took 3 hours labour to put front refurb kits in as had problems getting the piston out and in. He said I would be better off buying new calipers for the rear as it would be less labour and keep costs down. I've sourced these on eBay
http://m.ebay.co.uk/itm/2-REAR-BRAKE...047?nav=SEARCH the make is nissin. Do you think they are ok and is it the best route to go. Is it much easier to replace 2 rear calipers labour wise.

Quite often you can unstick rear calipers by winding the piston out and in a few times.

Replacing rear calipers isn't particularly difficult to DIY. Neither is refurbishing them though it can be tricky to get the seals in the groves.

Read the ad carefully they are not made by Nissin, they just say they replace Nissin. But don't worry they are good quality copies, I have a pair on my rears been there a year with no problems.

Same - I have one of these on my car; been on 18 months now and no problems.

3Hrs? Thats a very long time for a garage. Even if parts are a bit stuck.
Rears are easy enough to refurb, but found always easier when you have 2 sets of hands. one person opens up seal, other positions piston.

Good luck!

I refurbed my rears a few months ago, including wire-wheeling, painting and budweg caliper kit from Brakes International. If I was doing it again I'd go for some new or professionally refurbed ones as it's just time consuming rather than difficult.

I'd also try and get some that were galvanised rather than painted - no idea what type of protection the ones listed above have or if galvanised ones exist but having read around the subject the galvanising also protects the cylinder bore as well as the cosmetic external.

With DIY the one tricky bit of the process is getting the gaiter in the groove, so I ended up using a bit of plastic rolled into a shallow cone (check there's no sharp edges) to get the piston through the outer gaiter once I'd settled it in the groove in the caliper.

I did a full brake overhaul last year.

New pistons seals everything except the calliper and carriers. Used brakes international refurbish kits which supply everything.

Would I do it again? Not a bloody chance.

Takes a long time and is very fiddly.

Might as well send them off to bigredd and have then coloured at the same time. You might think it's expensive but for a colour and refurb it ain't bad.
