Default Stock 2007 ICE

Bloody mod bug has hit me and I've only had the car 6 weeks. Swore I would keep it stock!

This one relates to the ICE. I understand swapping out the head unit is a good way to increase the sound quality without splashing out too much time and effort.

Is the stock 2007 model head unit any better than in previous model years and is it still worth upgrading on the grounds of improving the sound? (rather than adding extra connectivity for ipods etc).

Thanks!

Matthew

The speakers in the doors are always worth upgrading - and you can stick 2 extra ones in the panels behind the seats.

Makes a big difference

Yep! Both the headunits and speakers needs upgrading even in the latest model!

I think the 07 had rear speakers anyway. In my 04, they're just tiny ones in the headrest, but they're in the roll hoop on the 06+. Given that they're slightly better than other years, I'd swap the Head Unit first. I found that to be reasonable even with 04 speakers. Then swap speakers if you need more volume.

HU first definitely. Then you can get an MP3 CD playing one. Or even an MP3 DVD playing one.

Upgrade the Head Unit first to an Alpine or somesuch and then wait and see, I'm really very happy with the sound from the 06 speakers which are very much the same, it's only when you increase the volume beyond useful range that it distorts.

Just upgraded mine today, I've only done the headunit a very nice Alpine CDA-9887R, so my ipod can now be controlled from the unit and the dashboard controls work ok with the extra interface.

The unit is a bit of a tight squeeze, sounds and looks nice!....I'm happy

The alpine dash unit is huge, a MODIFRY one is tiny - one will be for sale in the next few weeks, you saw it first here folks

I changed the HU and door speakers in my 06 and loved the result.
Had I kept it I would have amped up the fronts and left the roll hoop speakers which are actually OK.
