Default Stock Clutch Q...

Took my first S for a test drive today, really liked it, the one I went to see was cosmetically sound for the age/mileage, had some shit tyres on and a few other minor notes but visually I was quite impressed.

Once I got on the road though, the clutch seemed very stiff, even lumpy perhaps. As its the first one I've actually driven I was wondering if this was normal? Everything I have read says it should be an OK car to drive in city conditions, but the few miles I did seemed different

Ta.

I absolutely hated mine at first in City conditions.

But you grow to love and live with it.

I did wonder that but theres not an inkling of any other mods, seems a strange thing to do first and then sell the car on.

The standard clutch is heavy relative to most day-to-day cars.

I thought it would be, my e36 clutch is much heavier than any other car i've driven and i expected similar but this still surprised me, going to test another down the road, its out of my price range but a bit newer and fewer miles so should give me an indication of any differences. I'm sure I could articulate all day about stiffness (wuh huh!) but a good old comparison should give me a better idea.

Could be a car that's been nodded and put back to standard, clutch is a pain to change and what you get for it second hand won't cover paying a garage to do it

May just be dry clutch fork/slave cylinder rod.

Easy, cheap albeit fiddly fix (depending on how fat your fingers are)

Does the clutch buzz/Whirr on deceleration?

Yeah I agree with oxhouser unless there is something wrong.

When I was running OEM, my clutch was relatively soft.

And this is what you need to do,

https://www.s2ki.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=370792

Will make the clutch feel 20% lighter, make sure you use ULTRA high temprature grease the green stuff.

We had a thread last year that resulted in half a dozen guys doing this, including me with great results.

Simples!

EDIT This is in the tech FAQ, second page, it's always the best place to look first before posting, I'm not flaming you Steve, it's just you've probably noticed you've got into a discussion on competition clutches and what might be fitted to YOUR car (I don't think anyone has long distance X ray vision) whats better or worse and all of that stuff is of no use to you.
And as you said the car came with some shit tyres, I'm asuming the last owner was not tech savvy and would have an OEM clutch fitted.
