Strange running problems
Our 1999MY is running very strangely and such that we can't drive it properly at the moment.
After warming up a bit (say, after 6 miles or so) she starts sort of jerking/juddering and then there seems to be rather less forward momentum from the engine. It is almost as though you were quickly, repeatedly but lightly touching the brakes as you drive along.
It happens with the clutch in and gets progressively worse until we decide just to pull over.
We had some new rear tyres fitted and asked the local dealer to have a look but they said they found nothing and couldn't replicate the problem (I don't know how hard they tried or how far they drove to test it). Sure enough, for a while after the new rears it seemed to be fine and we assumed some wheel weights had fallen off or something. It is back now though.
One thing is that front left brake seems to heat up a great deal (and certainly more than the others on any given drive) so it looks like that caliper might need a strip and rebuild. My thoughts are that the caliper may be sticking and the disc may be warped, such as to cause the juddering. This would also explain why the effect continues with the clutch in, and why power seems down (brakes being effectively jammed on a bit).
What you you more knowledgeable guys think this sounds like?
Cheers,
jm

If one brake is getting hot, then it's the brake, especially if you're getting the same effect with the clutch in / in neutral.
I had a sticky brake recently (though oddly it was staying cold). That'd judder for a few minutes after using the brake, then go away until the next time (on the motorway this was).
