Strange Vibration
Got a vibration on the car and it's really annoying me. It seems to be at all speeds but gets worse with speed. It's not coming through the steering and seems to be from the back of the car. It comes in waves, vibration for about 5 seconds, no vibration for about 5 seconds, then vibration.
Initial thoughts are
Wheel balance problem
Buckled wheel
Incorrectly fitted tyre
I have had all the suspension off and greased at the CoG, but don't think this could be related.
Any advice much appreciated
Dave

Dave, I had a vibration at certain speeds (if you drove through it it went away) which turned out to be a wheel weight that had fallen off.
Dealer diagnosed it and sorted it by fitting new tyres which were badly worn anyway.

First job is to get all the wheels re-balanced. All tyres are in good condition with plenty of tread and even wear.
Seems worse between 70 - 80 on motorway. At first I thought is was just the poor condition of the roads, but it does it on smooth sections of motorway too.

Just been and had the wheel balance checked.
Both fronts checked - spot on
Both rears checked - both incorrectly balanced - now corrected.
Went for a short test drive, feels much better. Will have a longer drive at the weekend to fully assess, but first signs are good

Problem went away completely when new tyres were fitted.
The problem can also therefore be a bad tyre as well as those issues you listed.
Glad rebalancing seems to have sorted your problem

Where did you get your wheels balanced Ian? I only ask as I had mine balanced three times and it was only the last one that sorted the problem. I took it to a different place that seemed to have brand new kit.
I'm not sure all machines are created equal and calibrated regularly enough.
Anyone a tyre fitting expert?
