Stupid hood question

Default Stupid hood question
Can anyone tell me why, when lowering the hood, do the windows also automatically open?

...and more importantly, when driving with the hood down and the windows up, why does raising the hood again lower the windows?

People keep asking me and I have yet to think up a convincing answer.

Because it would foul the glass going up and down and it wouldn't seal properly going up - the glass needs to seat properly against the rubber hood seals.

Mine do the same when I raise and lower the roof.

It's so they don't catch on each other.
