Tanabe Concept G exhaust and Berk HFC

Went to WIM in Chesham today to have the Berk HFC fitted. I was already pleased with the Tanabe Concept G exhaust, especially the sound, apart from a slight drone at around 3.5K RPM. The sound with the HFC fitted is so much better, no drone and definitely feel like there is more power available. Took me by surprise when I was merging onto the M25 on the way home. The car just took off with a glorious exhaust sound. I'll try to get some videos done tomorrow weather permitting. Meanwhile, this is a great cat and exhaust upgrade.

Very interested to hear how that sounds as I'm 99% decided on the Concept G and also have the Berk HFC

Same combination I have plus the K & N Gen 2. Sounds amazing

mark_k 04-28-2015 06:01 AM

Hi Woolie,

I've decided on the Tanabe Concept G too. Can I ask you where you got yours from? Cheapest I've found is £886 from tarmacsportz.co.uk.

woollie 04-28-2015 07:50 AM

Yup, got mine from Tarmacsportz too.

marketappeal 04-28-2015 10:35 AM

I have a Mugen exhaust and I'm about to add a berk HFC. Good to know it helps.https://www.s2ki.com/s2000/public/st...t/thumbsup.gif

S2K Tuning 04-28-2015 11:28 AM

It's not a terrible price; they're around £588 shipped from Yankland but obviously depends how much import duty rape-age you get stuck with.

You'd be surprised. Evasive motorsports quoted me $200+ for shipping to UK! I worked out with that and import duty I'd be looking at over £900.

The price above includes shipping to UK

mark_k 04-29-2015 05:59 AM

No sorry I mean that I couldn't get it cheaper buying it direct from the US. I agree that the above price is good.

woollie 04-29-2015 06:51 AM

My exhaust came from Tarmacsportz and was shipped from the US all for £886 to my door. That said, I have dealt with Andy at S2Ktuning and he is a top chap to deal with, so for the sake of a few quid and wondering about import duty and tax I'd recommend him.

Any sign of these videos yet? wold be good to hear it.

woollie 04-29-2015 07:40 AM

Yes, sorry about the delay. Just waiting for a day when I am a) home early enough and b) it's dry so that I can record it with the roof down as well as up. I also want my daughter there so she can record a drive by video (I would ask my wife but she doesn't understand!).

woollie 05-02-2015 08:31 AM

Some videos but I used the GoPro built in mic so the sound isn't as good as it could be:

Just had the Tanabe Concept G fitted at the weekend and I have to say the drone is very bad. Between 3 to 4.5k is the worst and uncomfortably loud.

When installing the exhaust the garage found that the inside of my cat has broken up, so I've ordered a Berk HFC out of necessity. Hopefully that will reduce the drone somewhat as I'm not sure I can live with it... :(

Interesting, let us know if the HFC makes it bearable?

The Berk HFC will make a big difference. Interesting that you find the drone very bad, I guess everyone has different tolerances to various frequencies. The biggest difference that I found was between the 3-4.5K RPM band, so motorway cruising is more relaxed so hopefully you will find the same. The sound is definitely improved with the HFC fitted :)

mark_k 06-03-2015 06:51 AM

The cat arrived today and have the car booked in to have it fitted next Thursday. Will update then!

Ha ha thats weird I was just thinking about you!

Edit: that sounded a little creepy, I meant I was thinking about your big shiny pipe.

EXHAUST! I mean the exhaust !!

Kieranrob 06-04-2015 09:03 AM

Am glad I found this thread, I bought a tanabe concept g exhaust years ago and only had it on the car for about 300 miles because the drone was unbearable at about the 3-4k RPM. In the video's that's been posted it sounds really good so I might give it another shot with the Berk HFC fitted. Where did you guys purchase the HFC from? Cheers

Kieranrob 06-04-2015 09:14 AM

I have found a place that sells the Berk HFC. Which size did you guys go for the 70mm or the 63.5mm?

woollie 06-04-2015 10:58 AM

63.5

mark_k 06-04-2015 11:06 AM

63.5mm here too!

Kieranrob 06-04-2015 12:45 PM

How you finding it mark did you get yours fitted today?

tangoray 06-04-2015 01:04 PM

glad I've just seen this thread because I emailed evasive for a price on a berk HFC and the concept G exhaust 2 days ago. $1250 delivered (£813), they will be customs friendly too, i did ask :tipwink: I'm gunna throw a random figure of £75 customs (perviously paid £100 on a $1200 shipment). makes it £888. not too bad really.

Earl where did you get a price of £588 shipped from???

How you finding it with the HFC installed? Has some of the drone gone away? Am thinking about ordering one this week

mark_k 06-11-2015 12:03 AM

It's actually in the garage having it fitted as we speak. I'll take it out for a run when I pick it up at lunchtime and will post an update later today!

mark_k 06-11-2015 03:48 AM

Just got the car back. It's very different. The drone is gone. Completely. I don't feel like my ears are about to cave in anymore. It is SO much better!

It has definitely got louder, but it's much nicer to live with.

Early days yet as I have only been out in it quickly so will report again after a few day's use.

Kieranrob 06-11-2015 01:32 PM

Sound good bud, I think i will order one myself and if I don't like it the lot can go on eBay. Cheers for reporting back

woollie 06-16-2015 04:50 AM

Just back from a five day trip to Le Mans. Some early morning hooning outings and a 300 mile drive back to Calais and the Berk HFC definitely helps makes the hooning more exciting and the cruising much more relaxing with regard to the noise. What surprised me was how comfortable the seats are. I felt great after the long drive home.

mark_k 06-17-2015 04:33 AM

I've done a few long journeys now and I'm very happy!  Still no drone and quite comfortable at motorway speeds. The HFC was well worth the money!

I'm now concerned about the need to remap. Other posts on here suggest that changing the cat in particular can make the engine run dangerously lean and a remap would fix this. Have you guys done this or are you still running the stock map?

woollie 06-17-2015 06:10 AM

Stock for me. I asked around and nobody suggested a remap was required.
