Does it increase as revs increase?
Sounds like a cam follower/tappet sounding problem to me.
Oil starvation? Check that first - if it is constant, it could mean mechanical wear.

Yes it does seem to get faster as it revs. Oil Levels fine! when i rev out of gear there is no noticable tapping. And after about 5 min on the move is seem to go!

I have a similar issue although mine seems to tap/rattle at idle once warm and seems to go when reving or driving.
After research i've attributed it to a failing 'TIMING CHAIN AUTO TENSIONER'
I've only owned a S (99 silverstone) for 3months so i'm no expert, but maybe it's the same problem?
Maybe somebody can confirm this and also my issue (sorry to push in on the post)
Anyway here'e the link from U.S. on how to change it:-
