Question TCT or not TCT

Morning all, yesterday I had a full service and health check carried out at a local Honda dealer, everything was sweet apart from 4 tyres needed (already booked in for Thursday) and that a new TCT may be needed (£365) so I had a word with mechanic who did work and road tested who said he didn,t notice anything but guy who took it to the valet area thought he heard a problem on start up. I,ve never heard the noise, so often quoted on here, in 5 years of ownership. I,ve no paperwork saying if TCT has been changed, car has 84k on a year 2000, should I go with gut feeling (load of b****x) or have work done just in case, opinions please

I think you'd hear it, when mine fails it's embarrassing how much noise it makes. Try google/youtube for failed TCT and see if you can hear it. I did the file/sandblast option about 10k ago but its starting to go again so I'm going to replace it with a Ballade sports TCT.

eSem has a TCT for sale here! Comparable to the Ballade one and you would get it quicker.

Only noise on a hot engine is normal.
Don't think I would trust a cleaner either

The OEM TCT will eventually fail. With the age and mileage on your car I suspect it already has and may have been replaced. Not sure of a good replacement available outside of North America where the Billman Gen-X is proving to be trouble free. I'm a strong believer in preventive maintenance and put that TCT in my engine at about 40K miles.

Billman, Ballade Sport, Inline Pro etc ... as far as I am aware these are all more or less the same design, stronger springs, heavier piston and increased oil pressure. They should all fix the TCT rattling permanently.
