Default Ap confusion

I own a 2006 s2000 but noticed the vin plate says ap1, the digitaltach looks as If it revs to 9000 ie redline starts at 9000, my engine says f20c2 which adds up however my tax book says 1997cc, should it not be 2200cc, totally confused any help appreciated.

All UK/EU cars are 2 litre AP1.

AP1 is F20, 2.0L 1997cc. AP2 is F22, 2,2L 2157cc

I can understand how this confusion arises; the first two letters denotes the vehicle type and the number the powertrain, but there were some EK anomalies, were 5s 6s & 7s appeared to relate to the body type.

Pity the poor FK-ers now; an FK2 is a 1.8 UFO Civic. Or a Bagpuss Type-R!

NSXs are easier and obey the rule:

NA1 = 3.0L (C30A) - therefore includes ALL automatics from 1990-2005.
NA2 = 3.2L (C32B) - 1998 to 2005 manuals.

S2000 is also perfectly logical.

I'm not sure Honda ever used AP1 and AP2 to define these cars. Enthusiasts do, of course. But AP2 is a chassis/engine code for the S2000 F22C1 engine that was fitted to North American cars starting in 2004.

Recall the VIN is a vehicle identification number, not a build sheet.

Gary,

You've an AP1 like everyone else in Euroland. An 04 onwards is known as "facelift" AP1, not AP2. It may look like an AP2 but the engine gives it the AP1 nomenclature. It basically saved Honda paying bucket loads to have it homologated as an AP2.

Incidently if you came to some of our Northern Ireland meets we could inform you of this.

I don't think it's explained in the FAQ.

Gary,

This Saturday at Applegreen M2 services (Templepatrick) at 09.00. We will be revisiting the Megameet route. Probably about 10 cars. You are very welcome. (Sorry not really for this thread).........and we're all AP1s
