Time for Paint!
I've finally bitten the bullet and booked the S in for a respray next week.
In order to keep the costs down, I'll be stripping the vehicle prior to dropping it off. Eager to hear your thoughts or observations on what I plan to remove and any tips for troublesome items.
Quite excited to finally get the work started. After 20 years the paint is tired but the rest of the car is in fine condition. Think this is the refresh she needs. Additional question - My exhaust tips are a little battered, looks like they have interfaced the kerb in the past. Other than a straight OEM replacement, are there any reasonable alternatives? I'll be sure to get some photos up of the progress. |
Nothing to add, just looking forward to seeing updates of the progress and more details.

Be careful with the "H" badges on the front and tail if you intend on reusing them. The spindly lines that make up the "H" can crack and break easily.
|
You could of course just remove the badges and have the holes filled before paint and finish with a smooth car?

So, here she is ready to be driven to the paintshop. I've stripped off as much as I could while leaving the car road legal. (Hence my new 'indicator' install and a single wing mirror!)
I have most of the rear end of a front end written off S2K in my garage, so that'll be taken down in a van for the body shop to remove and replace any panels they discover have embraced the tin worm. https://cimg9.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.s2k...7878042bfd.jpg Removed the interior to allow access to the rear quarter, as well as pulling the roof apart to get the roof trim off. https://cimg1.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.s2k...9b230a30d3.jpg These weather strips were troublesome! I managed to get 9 of the 12 clips off intact. Can't believe the replacement price for each clip! https://cimg8.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.s2k...9677a6decd.jpg Roll on Monday for the work to commence! Will be a same colour respray plus a little body work. Bit concerned by what they will find when they cut into the N/S rear quarter, but if it needs doing, it needs doing properly. Car has had paint applied to the boot in the past, as when I went to remove the spoiler it also removed a large portion of the paint! (And I was being very careful!) Good job its getting painted or I would have been a little upset! |
Nice, something i intend on in the future but i may go and facelift it when i do. Did you take the roof/boot surround long weather strip off? Its tough to do.
|
I did, basically involves removing the plastics on the interior and removing the roof bracing and rain rail.
I've had the roof off enough times that this took me about an hour. https://cimg5.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.s2k...e1df09bcbc.jpg https://cimg8.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.s2k...4c01c53aa0.jpg |

So, it has begun. Bit traumatising to see all the paint getting removed! https://cimg4.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.s2k...dc95768447.jpg |
Are they not removing the badges and handles?
