Toda pistons FRN or Iron application
After hour of google I give up looking..
Is the above pistons designed to run in FRN or steel liners the OS 87.5 12:1 =13020-F20-000 are of interest and grade of forged alloy used. ? Anyone used or have any info of longevity compared with the likes of ,of the shelf forged pistons for Liner use. JE/CP by comparison to the above and worth the extra $ |
Just my opinion noodels but too many aftermarket companies promise the earth and in reality deliver something very different. I would always use Honda OEM parts unless you have no choice due to compression etc.
I have seen friends spend 1000s on custom cranks and pistons only for them to be made to worse tolerances than OEM components. If you are going to go down this route then i would get in touch with an engine builder over in the states and get their opinion on whats the best quality piston for the price as its abit of a minefield out there. |
Agree Mark,Oem all the way but not looking good hone wise, even Mahle only do .25 OS max.
Did not want to sleeve as piston expansion with seems problematic with Forged 2618. Toda boast tighter tolerance,as many do !! Honda do an o/s .25 may need them Defric coated ,will see on further block inspection. if not. MID sleeves and CP would be an option. will look further..:rain: |
Hi Andrew,
PM user "Andrewhake", he is really close to the guys at Go Tuning (who are the main distributor in the US for Toda) and I am sure he will be able to help you (or PM Go Tuning direct - they are on the site). It's a shame you can't use the Mahles as it would have been interesting to see how the 12.5:1 pistons performed. Is not possible to find a good block rather than going that far oversized? |
Real street says Toda 13020-F20-000 need liners
await to here from Go tuning |
4 Attachment(s)
Surely there must be SOMEONE that can do the correct re-coating of the bores once they have been machined (or provide liners that have been coated that can allow the use of OEM pistons?).
Try contacting Perfect Bore - Perfect Bore Manufacturing: Gundrilling, honing, deep-hole boring | - and see if they can help? They did the Nikasil steel liners for my Cosworth: Attachment 74620 Attachment 74621 Attachment 74622 Attachment 74623 |
Its finding the pistons to run in Nikasil
Jun Auto used cosworth to manufacture other Honda pistons but not the F20c think might ring them and see if they do a custom :tipwink: |
mahle do have 87.1
not only 87 and 87.25 (and for FRM)i i will try them |

Got to be worth a phone call at the very least ;). |
I'd just do a K Swap :)
https://www.balladesports.com/produc...k2024-swap-kit K20 and K24 are peanuts in comparison and arguably a better engine. Certainly they modify better! Given an F20 full block is about £3k, the ballade kit for £2k and a £1500 K engine, plus selling your dead F20 isn't a bad option. |
