I spoke to my dealer (the honda dealer in thames ditton - can't remember the name) about this a couple of days ago. their advice was : Mobil S for the first ~10k miles, then it's safe to switch to Mobil 1. Don't mix though, for obvious reasons.

Amazing how little consensus there is on this......

I've just finished watching the Best Motoring video about Honda R cars and during the video they have an interview with MD at Spoon sports and he recomends NOT putting expensive oil in your car, he says to stick to whatever the manufacturer recomends, I actually found that quite strange as I thought a racing company would recomend oil that could withstand higher temps.

Since new I've used GTX Magnatec for Advanced engines (note there are two types of Magnatec, the other one is for normal engines). I actually thought it was a mineral oil but in fact its semi synthetic.

I've bought some Mobil 1 to use after the 1st service but now i'm not so sure. Those of you who use Mobil 1 did you get the garage to put that oil in when doing the service or are you just using it for top ups, if its the latter then your probably going to end up mixing Mineral and Synthetic, could this cause problems?

I supply my dealer with all oils now as it works out cheaper.

Mobil1 at second change, 8050 miles, and to anyone who says they don't burn oil, please put in the statement 'except at track days!!!!!!!!!!!!!!'

Tight as a drum away from the track

That could explain my car's dypsomania!

Right! I'm going out to deglaze my bores as soon as the weather brightens!

Am using Shell Helix Ultra as recommended by Marshall Honda, Reading. The car has now done 18800 miles and hasn't used any oil in the last 1000.

BAKINBLK's suggestion worked for me - I got non-synthetic 10W-30, which is exactly what is prescribed, from a Ford dealer.

I couldnt find 10W-30 anywhere else including a huge Halfords which had just about everything else!

I left my S2000 on the Ford forecourt while I went around to the service shop at the back - the Ford sales guys gave me a funny look when I came back through

Long bar??

Reading all this - think I shall develop paranioa (?) following delivery.

Must say I was pained by the drop height when the dealer closed the bonnet | hood before my test drive. The thought of doing that every 5 minutes
