Default On track with a VX220

I was at Snetterton on Wednesday evening with Javelin and there was a great variety of cars as always. One in particular surprised me. (If surprised is the right word)

Last session of the evening and a vx220 turbo caught me up in some traffic. Thought I'd be considerate and let him past as i was certain i'd hold him up. Anyway, he came past i decided to see if i could keep up and i have to admit i was pretty surprised when i managed to stick on his tail for several laps.

Pretty pleasing to keep up although i suspect i was a lot closer to the limit than he was.. I wonder if it was a bit new to the guy because i'm sure i shouldn't be keeping up with stuff like that!? Anyone else had similar competition?

I don't know the full spec of the turbo but I think they were only around 200 bhp.... I'm no racing expert but our extra revs count in the skirmishes ive had

Disappointing, I would have thought that an S2000 would walk a vx220 if both were stock.

Don't think i was stock to be honest, sounded like it was running a different exhaust and possibly upped boost judging by the exhaust roar/whoosh.. It was a very close match, corners I was gaining on him but on the straights it was pretty much a dead heat. Guess the lotus chassis and the lack of weight worked in his favour.

I'm pretty sure i can do better, although i did pressure him into a mistake and he clipped a tyre stack which got me past quite comfortably. I'll put my extra brave pants on next time

Reckon you would have pulled away if you were in front :-) They are not that quick.. Don't underestimate the power and handling of a S2000.

Or the faster, lighter VX220 for that matter

Driver skill/bravery/stupidity then. Slower out of the corners means slower onto the straight, so if the straight was a dead heat then he must have had a bit more acceleration.

Aren't they 220bhp (hence the name)? But obviously lighter and lower and more track focussed than a big lardy S2000.

Why, the VX has a better power to weight ratio and does 0-60 in 4.7? The lower weight means it'll brake and corner much better than an S2000.

Track day comparisons aren't really relevant. For example, I have video of me being held up at Spa by a 911 GT3 RS 4.0. It was being driven very carefully by its owner at the time.

Later on in the day it flew past me at a great rate of knots. It was then being driven by this chap http://en.wikipedia....wiki/Mike_Wilds

I've overtaken comfortably and have been overtaken comfortably by other (stock) S2000s on track days.

I'm not insinuating it was a fair comparison or test of the two cars, It was just pretty pleasing that i managed to keep up with him. I still think more bravery is needed on my part
