Tyre Choice (2018) 50/50 Track and Street
 

So I've been browsing the S2ki board for tyre recommendations, and finding mostly they are US posts recommending difficult to get hold of tyres in the UK, or posts from 5 years old, so I thought I would post up for opinions on tyres available in the UK right now.

So following on from a great track day at Oulton Park at the weekend, it was apparant that the OE 16" tyres of dubious brand got me about 5 or 6 decent laps before heating up and feeling like jelly. So the 16's are going, and I'm looking out for some OE V1's or V2's to replace them, so I'll be looking at 17" tyres.

So Im after a tyre for a 50/50 split between track days and weekend jaunts, probably only when the sun in shining so wet tyre use not that important to me. Looking at recommendations, it seems the AD08R's get a good rep, the AO48's and perhaps the Toyo R888 (R) too.

So looking for people with track day experience really to give me the low down on the best tyre available that will suit, that will fit under non-rolled arches, and whether the staggered 215/245 setup works well.

i managed 3 laps on AD08rs up front at Donny before being flagged for noise, they are good

not great cold and poor in damp & cold but that doesnt seem relevant. i am fitting to the rear next.

I managed fine on the 16s (various Bridgestone options, latterly the excellent RE002s). I did use R888 for a little while and they were great on track but horrid on the road, very noisy and made the ride very bad.

If you're determined to go for 17s, then I'd keep the 16s and put some track tyres, and use the 17s for the road along with some Michelin PS4.

If you want an all rounder for track and road, then AD08R is the go to option.

Changed to PS4 and went to oulton park, what an epic tyre!

I think I'd give the Hankook RS4's a go if I were you. Supposed to be grippy and decently long lasting (compared to RE71s anyways).

Ohlins lowered 25mm with no fender mods..
Had Rainsports on car when I got it,215/245
Federal 595 rsr 225/255
Now on AD08R 225/255 <are lighter than 595rsr>
The Nankang Ns2R on the Civic are <VERY loud>
If I could afford 888R it would be my choice

This - The Michelin's are so much better than anything else out there at the moment.... I also have them on my 911.

I'm looking to go with Michelin cup2 for the next season, a bit expensive but you get what you pay for :)
