Default Remapping a UK spec AP1 '01

As the title says I'm looking for information and recommendations for a remap on a 2001 ap1 model. I'm looking to dyno my car soon to see what power my car achieves after 17 years.

Current mods: k&n cone filter, jap speed exhaust.

Can't map oem ecu. Need aftermarket.

The ME221 plug and play is looking like a good alternative to the traditional AEM ECU these days, although a straight remap really won't give you much over stock, even with those basic breathing mods.
Having said that, you can move the vtec engagement and get bigger smiles

Thanks for the replies I was starting to think you can't do much with the oem ecu on the AP1 models.

On cars with drive by wire you can remap the OEM ecu with the aid of a Hondata. This has only increased peak bhp slightly but the increase in the mid range to both torque and bhp has been great. The car is easier to drive enthusiastically and the engine runs smoother.
You can modify a pre-drive by wire car ecu but sensors have to be changed, due to the work and costs involved you are better off fitting another ecu.
I am sure that others will explain what an AP1 car is in the UK.

They are all AP1 here bar the odd import but early cars do need an aftermarket ecu, AEM being popular

Given the price (£1200 new) and cost of mapping you would be insane imo to get one for a couple of breathing mods

I was thinking about getting itbs in the future and possibly a supercharger which I imagine that you would need to do some kind of mapping to see power gains? I think a new ecu is the only way to go or the me221 plug in ecu as has been mentioned above. I am aware that the UK spec are all AP1s but were face lifted in 2004 (known as the AP2) and I believe the new ecus were in the 2005-2009 models which are easier to tune.

Ok makes more sense in that case though you'll still be needing mapping every time you make a change. Rolling road time ain't cheap so consider that in your plan.

AJI tuning are competitive

A supercharger deffo needs a map and can't be fitted to your car without an ecu. I have a 99 which is SC

UK spec Honda S2000 1999 to 2004 AP1 model, 2005 to 2009 AP1 face lift model. AP2 model refers to the 2.2L engine fitted for the Japanese and American market developing the same power but at lower revs and different gear ratios for improved acceleration.
If you intend to use forced induction on a non drive by wire, you will need a different ecu. I have had mine remapped using Hondata and the OEM ecu. This has helped to correct some over fuelling, given a wider torque band and the bhp at 6k revs has improved by 14bhp. When driven by an old man the fuel consumption has also improved achieving over 37mpg measured over a 3k miles driving around France.

I have a 2006 drive by wire with K&N FIPK. Is it worth getting the Hondata remap? If so, how do I go about it? Thanks!
