Apologies for adding to this huge thread, but here in 2019, I'm still running 16" wheels on my 145k mile 2002 S2000. However I'm struggling to find any of the recommended tyres in the suggested 16" sizes. I've previously gone Bridgestone RE050's, but I can only find the run flat version on places like Blackcircles, which is a different tyre. I've found the Yokohama Advan Neova AD08R listed, but this has a V speed rating, which some have suggested could be an issue in terms of insurance.

Is there a 2018/19 update of suggested 16" tyres that are readily available?

I was met with confusion when I emailed Honda - they don't appear to have anything listed in 16" fitment for the model of car and asked me what size tyres are fitted!

Bridgestone RE002 are what I was using most recently (check Forum Favourites) https://www.s2ki.com/forums/uk-irela.../#post23172378

Stock of these does tend to come and go, so you may have to search around a bit. They are fantastic.

If you can't find those, then go for the AD08s but check with your insurance co.

I ended up moving to 17's last year for that exact reason, as the 16's were becoming a PITA to get. That said, if you can get the Re002's they are great. For 17's, the Michelin PS4's are amazing.

I've just got my 16's refurbed and put on some Michelin Alpin 6 (Winter) as they are available in our size. Great tyres and very sticky. Loose a bit of turn in and a bit of stability at speed, but so much more bite in the cold mornings.

It looks like the way to go sadly - I've noticed that rubber for the 17's is actually cheaper too.

I'm not sure how much benefit there is to be had on Winter tyres, most roads I travel on are major and gritted - shall probably regret saying that in the morning!

Indeed they are. The 17" PS4 are cheaper than the 16" alternatives..

I've always survived without the winters tbh - only had to abandon the car once. Just be sensible about when/where you go I guess. Where I live now is quite hilly and last year I struggled more than I liked, so thought why not.

They provided a bit of extra grip this morning, but roads were mostly fine. It's just the initial feeling (despite it being more numb) that I've noticed a difference with. The tyres feel ... squidgy? Certainly more malleable - you can feel the tyres working more in the cold mornings. I have nothing to compare them against other than the summer tyres I've driven on, but I don't regret the purchase. Moreso if we get more of this white stuff forecast - if nothing else, it prolongs the other tyres lives a bit too.

If you fit 16s to the car with winters, if you do prang it off a kerb you hit sidewall, not wheel which means you bend rubber not metal or suspension. They're just an all round win if you use the car all year round.

To be honest, I've had my S2K as my main driver for almost 14 years, driven in all sorts of conditions. The only times the tyres have really struggled has been pretty heavy snow - I've needed assistance to get out of a snow covered car park before! Generally just take it steady and all is well.

How well do the Winter tyres really hold up? I understand they'd be good in the cold mornings, but when you're on a well gritted dual-carriageway, do they tend to get a bit warm and possibly feel unstable at speed?

Yea they can feel a bit unstable if you're taking corners at high speed. I'd probably be inclined to try the CrossClimate+ next time (assuming they do the rears - fronts are definitely ok). Just fitted them to the Mrs' Mini Cooper convertible and she said they are great. Much better than the runflat Pirelli's that were on there and much more comfortable too apparently.

This poll needs updated, as many of these tyres went out of production years ago. I use the Good Year Eagle F1 ASY 3, which ticks all the boxes for me.
