  • 245/40 R17 91Y
  • 245/40 R17 95Y XL
  • 245/40 R17 95Y XL

What would be recommended size-wise? I know the 91Y is the OEM size recommendation, but would I be better going for one of the other choices?

Thanks!

Worth the bump, I have the Asym 2 in oem sizes. I opted for the higher load version of the tyre and I'm very happy with them. the 95Y refers to the load and speed index. going higher than the oem values is not going to be an issue going lower and your insurance might not like it if you ever had to claim.

I opted for the higher load XL tyre only because the Bridgestone is renowned for having such a stiff sidewall and I knew that some other tyres get a bad report from owners on here if they are too soft in the sidewalls.

I'm days away from buying new tyres. In 6 years I've only ever used the re050 mz and to be honest I'm not enough of a good driver to really push them hard, but since I'm now orienting the car towards a good track car with occasion fast road use I'm thinking new tyres are in order.

The question I was pondering was which tyres to buy. I was thinking one of the following based on this thread and in this order:

1. Yoko AD08
2. Good Year Eagle F1 asym
3. Toyo (the T1R replacement)

The low wear isn't an issue for me, it's no longer a daily drive and I only got 6 or 7k out of my last mz after including 1 airfield day and Anglesey.

Anyway I've decided I'm going with the Yoko's if I can get them so I can't comment on them yet but another vote for em from me.

Quite surprised at the pole results. Having driven on michelin pilot sport, eagle f1 (gsd3's) and OEM bridgestones, the eagles were substantially better.

I found the michelin's were 30% more expensive, yet wore like formula 1 rubber & had no greater grip/tolerance to different environments than the goodyears. The OEM Bridgestones were good, but the edge of grip was found very, very quickly and it was an instant drop. They also didn't like getting hot.

The goodyears enjoyed all weathers, performed well in all environments and offered great transition from the edge of grip. Also offered great wear rates and dealt with heat very easily.

My s is road-driven and has seen negligible track time. It is driven in all weathers and does plenty of miles (last one did 100k for me).

Not really a surprise, more people will have used the Bridgestones, so they will get a lot of votes.

My AD08s are refusing to wear out. There's still loads of tread left, and I've had them well over a year. The most expensive tyres I've ever bought, but they're working out to be the cheapest.

Yeah I've heard the AD08 are great tyres and have fantastic grip but are expensive, however as you say if they have lasted a long time in the long run they may turn out the cheapest.

Despite me slating the Hankook V12 evo's regarding a soft tyre wall, although the car hasn't been driven for a bit they have lasted quite a long time so so far turning out to be a good buy.
