Default Undersealing and rust prevention

I'm looking at getting the car undersealed with Dinitrol (I gather it's better than Waxoyl?). Has anyone had it done or have experience with it?

Can someone recommend a reputable shop to do this for me? I'm in SE London, so somewhere close by would be ideal!

Thanks

i had it done, its good stuff

but used JR classics in donny

you want someone who does all the cavity stuff and inside the rear arches etc

it stinks for months afterwards so hopefully not your only car

Oooh I been thinking about getting this done on my '08 - This JR classics - they did a proper job? not just covering over everything? I saw a couple of threads on here and got put off as it looked like a minefield finding somewhere that knew the proper way to do it and i don't really know how to ask for what is right!

I used DoctorMX-5 https://www.doctormx5.co.uk/what-we-do/rust-prevention/

Note that they've had some poor reviews of late, but check for MX-5 specialists as the cars are similar to ours but rust even more!

they did imo, been doing this for many years and i was impressed, he pulled out the carpets in the boot to spray the cavity wax behind those arches and it still looks good years later though there are bits which could probably do with a top up. it passed its MOT today and the tester said it was the nicest one he'd seen which was nice

i had a boot leak from washing the car ironically which meant the boot pan rotted so a new one will be going in, start of march.. i may have some pics, will have a dig

Thanks for the responses!

I've booked in at themx5restorer.co.uk for the end of this month after a recommendation from a friend who bought his mx5 from them.

I'll try and get them to take some photos and feedback here once it's done!

I'm doing this myself. Going a bit overboard but hopefully will keep the car alive longer.

I'm going for:
- Remove surface rust, BH Deox Gel if required
- Por-15 Degrease
- Por-15 Metal prep
- x2 layers of Por-15
- BH Dynax s50 inside box sections
- BH Dynax UB ontop of POR for arches & underside

Time will tell how it holds up.

It went well but was a very lengthy process. Prep is everything so remove as much rust as possible. If using POR15 make sure to thoroughly degrease & use metal prep to etch surface. If rust is minimal I would just use BH spray on products rather than paint. I feel it was a bit overboard.

A few key areas which I found needed most attention:
- Front inner wing traps dirt which causes rust to set in on lower wing / removable panel
- Jacking points front and rear
- Engine bay cross beam (under plastic intake)
- Engine bay under battery tray (acid leak in my case)
- Rear arches behind plastic panels
- Rear arch inner lip (needed welding on driver side due to minor perforation)
- Behind rear bumper, sides of boot floor

The underside was my least favourite part, painting/degreasing above my head was not enjoyable, but you could see minor corrosion setting in around spot welds so a worthy chore.

I thought I was on the home straight but pulling back the rear arches I found hairline cracks in the paint in a particular location (on both sides). A wire wheel showed rust coming in from the seam and eating inside out. Apparently this is a common area so inspect thoroughly. Gave me the chance to learn to weld!

I used about three cans of s50 & 5 cans of UB. But I did do:
- Engine bay
- Whole underside
- Entire boot
- All four arches (including inside of removable wings)
- Behind front bumper
- Behind rear bumper

So essentially all of the chassis that was visible, I also coated all the suspension components. One can does quite a long way
