Err the Honda UK one was a mod. It wasn't factory fitted. it was installed in the UK after the car had been imported into the UK.

By that logic, fitting a UK number plate is also a mod.

Your average buyer is not going to worry about something fitted by Honda UK as standard. They're much more likely to be sent running for the hills by any suggestion that the car isn't full UK spec.

When i had my first euro import, every insurer i spoke to asked it if had a thatcham approved alarm and immobiliser. Luckily, mine had had a thatcham approved sigma alarm fitted and the car came with the certificate, of which i had to send a copy to the insurer.

Personally, i would walk away from a car if i asked about the alarm and was told that the honda one was unreliable so it was taken out. I would ask why a replacement hadn't been fitted and it would indicate to me that the owner hasn't maintained the car properly. After all, if they don't replace a faulty alarm, what else haven't they replaced or spend money on that needed doing?

Oh, and as an aside, doesn't the alarm key fob operate the central locking and boot release? Won't you lose that functionality if you remove the alarm? Having to use the key to open the car would REALLY put me off.

If you had the Honda OEM fob you wouldn't have a problem.

Lot of responses, cheers guys!

In no particular order:-
- Agree with the comments (Richard, Dave etc) about what not-replacing may say about a seller;

- I'd be happy to explain to a buyer about the H-P alarm...I'd just point them on here. It is a risk, but I'll take it...;

- Agree with Nick that they're NFU whatsoever in reality;

- I think, Richard, that the fob operates the r/c/l and the alarm-wiring is piggy-backed off that, rather than the alarm operating the r/c/l (because if that way around and the circuit-board fried, you'd be locked out of a deadlocked car...). So you just need to rip out the alarm and bridge the wiring...and the remote fob woill still work (shame it's only the 2-button!);

- AFAIK I'll probably pay
