My valve retainers were all fine, when it exploded.

My oil filter was leaking though; conrod knocked out its mounting.

So here's a parable, or something; Never put jam on a magnet.

AP2 retainers seem to be the choice.

I wouldn't over react here though.

Id sooner be securing my oil filter in place!

I wonder if the AP2 retainers are used in the EUDM +04 F20C engines we have?

Nick translator says;

"A parable is a brief, succinct story, in prose or verse, that illustrates a moral or religious lesson"

Not sure Mikey... You could see how it could work both ways, ie standardise the whole MY04 ownards whether F20C or F22C or just keep the same ones in the F20 regardless of MY.

I think either way, something will always give in an over rev, no matter how strong they are.

The moral here is that if you have had a known over rev, its sensible to lift the lad and replace the retainers rather than the engine letting go on you. And what you replace them with - well I dont think there is much of a problem on F20 retainers from what I can gather. Not much to suggest they let go unless they have been stressed. Im only going by that, and a few other posts though.

I was just making the point that it is easy to check the retainers if you think you might have over revved or don't know the history of the car.

Good on the left

When I had my retainers replaced I did a bit of research on this and found that the retainers had been replaced in *all* S2000 engines.

I ordered a set from my local dealer and they managed to get them in a couple of days.

They tried to quote me for fitting them

We noticed that a couple of the retainers removed from my car had stretched a bit.

I still have the set I removed somewhere
