water in boot again

Default water in boot again

ok i have had water in my boot since i bought the car so today i tracked it down to see pic

so what is this odd bit of plastic and whats its function ??

That's the boot vent, it releases pressure in the boot when you slam the lid, a common source of boot leaks. You'll have to remove the rear bumper to get at it, you'll find the rubber seal around it either out of place or perished, or both. Liberally applied silicone is the popular fix for it. Just pop it onto the vent, press the rubber seal back on, apply some more silicone to the body and re install.
