What Additional Jobs Whilst the Engine is Out?
Whilst the engine is out of the orange peril with the main bearing and thrusts being replaced, is there anything else which I should look to get replaced or inspected?
replacement of timing chain perhaps?
any suggestions would be welcome to nurse the old girl back to full health.

timing chain would certainly be good to inspect. Easier with the motor out as are most things.
Starter? Top bolt I hear is very tough to get to (havent had the pleasure of that one yet) and if you have the oem starter it likely will start grinding at some point, so maybe not at terrible investment
Clutch. Unless it is pretty new, it is always hard for me to r and r a motor and not replace a clutch. Its right there in your face, and if it has plenty of miles on it (aka 80k or more in my mind) its not a bad thing to do if you have the money. All of my standard shift cars tend to go 150k or more on a stock clutch, maybe less on the cars I autox since I am harder on them ... but my previous autox car is 11 years old and had 8 years of autox and it still on the stock clutch after 140,000 miles with no issues. But ... if he engine is out and you are nearing 100k, why not replace it?
Clean the engine bay never a better time

Starter motor is a top idea, mine crunches nastily already actually.
Do you mean the sprocket for the top of the timing chain or the bottom? I think that is a damn good idea though.
I would love to be able to do the valve springs but i simply don't have the cash
I shall certainly have a look at the engine mounts as well to see what sort of state they're in.
this is going to get expensive isn't it...

I (well tangoVTEC actually) ended up replacing the clutch about a year or two ago when a new gearbox was put in so it is pretty new and has only done about 15K.
