Wheel Bearing and Hub Failure - Resolved
NOW RESOLVED - SEE LATER POSTS

Hi, would appreciate it if you could add comment if you agree/dissagree
I have booked my car in to have the wheel bearing replaced, however this is based purely on my own diagnosis, the garage have not seen it.
I'd like to check that I am probably correct, don't want to have the bearing changed and still have the noise.
The noise only starts after about 10mins driving from cold. After that it can be heard at about 35mph and below, it is pretty loud. Its not related to engine speed, and is directly related to wheel speed. Braking doesn't affect it, the noise remains either when coasting or slowing or under mild acceleraton. The noise usually stops with quick acceleration.
Noise is coming from the rear and I am almost certain its from the nearside rather then the middle or the right.
The noise can stop when turning left but will start/increase when turning right.
With the wheel off the ground and spinning it makes no noise. Have also looked at the brakes etc and they are okay - they are ferodos, so dont have wear indicators.
I suppose I just want to make sure others haven't heard a sound similar to this and found it to be the diff etc.

Thanks.

Im having mine fixed for this problem now. On mine it is the outboard CV and Wheel hub the groves where they sit together have worn and it sounds like an old pram!! The service manual also says the bearing should be replaced as well. If you tighten the wheel nut on mine it stops for a while and then the sound comes back. Im still waiting for the car to come back so I don't know if it cured. Good luck getting yours sorted

Will add a bit more information soon, but the short version is that not only was it the bearing, there was also corrosion between the bearing and the drive hub flange. It was this slight movement between the bearing and the hub that was the main source of the noise, but the bearing was also worn, its hard to tell which was the cause and which the effect. I have read others have had the same when hearing this noise (like Here) - ie not just the bearing, so be prepared.
Makes it a more expensive fix as the hubs aren't cheap!

I seem to have a similar noise.
Also driving up the A1 today seemed to be rumbling in 5th..disconcerting...putting it down to ropey road surface over this particular stretch.Thought I was losing power too in 5th.

I'll just add the last details, so anyone else with the same noises knows what they may be facing.
I decided that I would have the wheel bearing replaced by a garage as the work requires removing the hub and pressing out/in the bearing. It requires some specialist tooling (ball joint remover / bearing seperator) not to mention a press so decided not to DIY.
So I booked in at Vtec Direct in Winsford, for 2 hours labour plus the cost of OEM Honda Parts.
When I arrived, they took it for a quick spin - the bad news, he recognises the noise, it quite common, and with other S2000's done before, when the drive hub was not also replaced with the bearing, the noise wasn't cured.
So this meant I had to leave the car till the next day so they could buy the drive hub. Before I left we got it up on the lift, and when shaking the wheel without turning it on the bearing you could hear a slight creak. I was lent a car to go home and was to come back the next day after work. Was all sorted the next day as planned. Great service from Andy and Mark at Vtec Direct.
Here's some pictures of the old hub (still has half the inner bearing race on it), and a couple of diagrams to show how it all fits together for those that don't know.
