I was thinking the same recently as I had some old corroded eBay locking wheel nuts which were putting my BBS LMs to shame..
So last night I took my Deremel to them and skimmed off the corrosion, leaving them with rough sanding lines.. Then layered over some candy apple red powder coat which is transparent.
The idea being that the light will catch the sanding lines and reflect back through the candy..
IMO they look better that many that are crazy priced and are obviously custom which is nice.
If you want some nuts doing cheap, drop me a PM, I can do them for you.
