Question Another help please - Headlight auto adjustment - bar broke (MOT Failure) - Buy???

Hi all,

So as well as my other post, it seems the auto adjust on the headlights isn't working also.

Mechanic has said the bar that links to rear axle to the sensor has broke; short bar with x2 ball ends on has sheared.

Can anyone help advise where I can get a replacement from? I don't really want to buy a complete system from OEM as that'll no doubt cost a fortune.

Thanks

Brent

Ask Si at Hendy (see the traders section) to find out the cost from Honda. Better that than making assumptions which may or may not be accurate.

Please also see the rules relating to"Where can I buy" threads: https://www.s2ki.com/forums/uk-irela...-first-131836/

Hi Lovegroova,

I've spoken to the guys at Hendy & they said I'd need to replace the whole system at considerable cost (couldn't see separate parts).

I had assumed this would be a common fault or at least it may have happened to some others also?

My apologies if I'm in breach of the rules, it's not intentional & I must say sadly it's been a while since I've posted - been on the forum for approx 10 yrs.

In this instance I'm looking for advice only in the hope of pointing me in the right direction, perhaps even a DIY fix?

Is this ok?

I agree, there is a thread on the US side where someone did a diy they got some bar and threaded it left one end right the other and got some small threaded ball joints. Worked a treat apparently...

I'm doing this right now. The OEM joints are made by THK Japan, but they're difficult to get hold of over here. I'm currently waiting for a UK supplier to get back to me with costings and I'll report back.

If you're going down the DIY route you'll also need an M6 linkage rod. Be careful of cheap quality ball joints though; I bought a pair and they were crap.

Alternatively, you might be able to find a whole assembly on eBay if you're lucky.

Hi Tozerman, cheers I found a link to a guy in the UK that's done it

f20rob - Ok sounds interesting, do you have a timescale on getting hold of the parts? & costs? (PM me if not appropriate to write on the post).

Thanks

£23.30 for both the joints and £35.95 for the shipping. Add 20% VAT on top of that and it'll cost you £71.10 to get them over here.

There are definitely cheaper alternatives, but I decided to go ahead since I've invested so much time in tracking them down! If you are interested then throw me a PM.

I just re-read the title of your thread and I'm wondering if the joints are actually fine and you only need to replace the linkage rod. This would save you a few quid for sure...

IIRC, the main reason the rod shears (aside from corrosion) is the rheostat's very stiff.

Take it off & clean/lube it.
