Question Why me......... *updated*

Went to the supermarket last night and put my bag of groceries in the passenger footwell. I'm guessing the pint of milk I bought must have rolled out and under the passenger seat cos it's just "appeared" on my way to work.

Upon further investigation I now have a 3/4 pint of milk and a milk-soaked passenger side carpet....

I know what's coming - it's going to smell. Terrible...... I've googled for a solution but the overwhelming consensus is, the smell will only go when the carpet or the car does

Does anybody know how much a replacement carpet is (and if it's easy to fit?).

I'm starting to think I must have been evil in a former life!

Mmmmm..... cheeeesy

Have you tried a few goes with a Vax machine? Washing the carpet will remove the milk but promptness is the key. If you can wash out the milk with detergent before it sets (and begins to evolve) then you'll stand a much better chance of beating the smell Above all don't let it get warm...

This happened in our Volvo, it was left for a day in the sun before being discovered too the smell - "lingered"

What we did was:
- wash/scrub the carpet a few times
- lift the carpet and clean out underneathe - as the milk will have passed through and be sweating underneath the carpet
- dry the whole lot with the heaters when driving (with the windows open to let the smell out.
- plenty of febreeze
- more cleaning
- a few air fresheners to get rid of the last remnants

Took about 3 months for the smell to finally leave the car!

This was our beater, I'd suggest a professional job seeing as it's your pride & joy.

Good luck

I've heard of several solutions... some being...

Sponge up excess with a wet sponge, then sponge on diluted vinegar. The car will smell of vinegar for a few days, but it should go away.
Then buy an enzyme based cleaner (used for cleaning up pet accidents) - probably available from a pet shop.

Basically, the smell will be from bacteria, so you need to 'kill' 'em

Obviously try in a hidden area first.

Its the bacteria the make the milk smell, kill the bacteria. Give it a soaking with some Antibacterial stuff and then a good clean.

If you kill the bacteria it wont smell.

Hi there

You could try Rug Doctors Odour Remover which comes in spray form. It is safe on house carpet which is less resilient than car carpet. It got rid of the smell of cat piss after three applications. You will need to do under the carpet as well.

It has enzymes in the spray that kills the bacteria which causes the smell. I have seen it at Homebase and Johnson Dry Cleaners shops, costs about

I've got it.

There's a thing called antimilk. That sounds like it should do the job.

I don't know where you'll find it but here's a pic to help, it's behind the tree

I also believe they're good for saving cows, saving soap, stopping roads being built, smoking lots of dope and growing hair....

Sprinkle it with a washing powder first (Daz), wet it then give it a vax that will stop the smell
