Yet More Water Leaks in Boot - lol - Through Antenna
 

Hi Guys,

Yet more water leaking woes. lol. Would seem s2000 ownership is all about water ingress issues. haha!

This time is seems to be coming through the radio antenna.

Is this another common issue?

Any solution to this or is it just a matter of buying new seals? Items 7, 8 and 6

Or have people been adding silicon sealant instead?
I assume item 6 will perish overtime as it is always exposed to the sun, and cats or foxes will chew the antenna and weaken the seal.

From looking at the fastening nut (item 7) I would need some sort of circlip pliers to unscrew it?

There is a special 'antenna tool'.

But I shocked it loose with a hammer & screwdriver and used a bike spanner.

It probably merely requires tightening, & the seals cleaning & treating with silicone & rubber lubricant.

Unless the hole in the wing is rotted.

Your probably right. Might just need cleaning and lubricating with shin entsui grease.
Don't think its costs that much for the seal, will get some quotes.

Ahh Yes, forgot to update the thread.

As Nick mentioned, I stripped the antenna and its seals down and cleaned and lubricated the seals with shin entsui grease and re-assembled.

To be honest I think it was actually a loose fastener nut (item 7) and just needed tightening.
Was a good exercise to strip it down though.

So far so good, no more water ingress :)

Any tips on tightening the nut?

I would also like to know. What size, type used etc. Thanks

I used a watch back case remover like this, its adjustable so can fit the fastener slots perfectly.

Can be bought quite cheaply on ebay, the slot pieces does look quite different in this link.
Pretty sure you could find an identical one if you spent alittle time looking around online.

Havent got any torque specs, but you will know when to stop once you tighten the fastener down.
