Default Z4M v S2K.....

OK, OK - a no-brainer I know. But I have had a Z4M Roadster (Jan-June 07) and I'm now happily on my fourth S2K (with a SLK 55 AMG in between - auto box....AGHHH ). And I just went out this evening and had a very satisfying THRASH round some local roads (thankfully quiet - for a welcome change).
I have a particular stretch of road near me where you turn right and then go up a hill (steepish at first and then becoming more gentle but always up hill) to a farmer's gate - maybe it's (very roughly) half a mile (never measured it - the point here is the comparison not the stats per se).
If I HAMMERED the Z4M, I could get 120 (or a smidgin more) by the gate at the top of the hill. And this evening I was amazed to scrape 110 in the S2K. And boy did it sound fine as I rapid-shifted thru those first four gears at 9K rpm!!
These S2Ks really are surprisingly rapid for a 2 litre engine !

Looking at your avatar I'd say lose the passenger. Then you'll do it.

Mike,

That's actually quite a difference in performance (in track terms) that would put the Honda in a different league. Or so they'd have you believe.

Interesting that you've returned to an S2000 after two cars that the received wisdom brigade would tell you are 'vastly superior!'

Have a similar stretch of road back home. Winding section going up hill and steep enough that about 10 years ago they had to shear the entire top of the hill off because of the number of lorries that got stuck going up it. The section of road I've always checked my cars on.

Small engined hatches (Nova/Polo/fiesta etc) if you put it through the corners on the door-handles you'd be doing 50mph tops and bleeding speed as you crested the hills.
The 2 Litre Avensis i had through work really going for it I got 70mph and was just managing to maintain the speed.
In the S I was doing about 90, accelerating and thinking i need to slow down cause if there's a tractor round the next corner I'm toast

Actually had a 04-plate Silverstone S2K GT for a short while in mid-04 (bought it from a bloke in Wales who used to post here - he picked me oop from Cardiff station in his TVR). Thankfully it had black leather rather than pimp red Never did get on with that slow dreary grey colour either - so binned it after a couple of months Out of the four S2K's I've had, i can in all honesty say that the nurby blue ones were/ARE the fastest!!

Did you drive the same road in the AMG and if so how quick was it in comparison?

I had one on order but cancelled after a long test drive mainly because of the slush box...... monster quick but ruined by the auto!

Yes - the SLK 55 was just about as quick as the Z4M, but certainly no quicker. The SLK 55 engine engine was monster alright - but despite really trying to like the car, it had to go cos of image issues and that sh!te auto box!! If there's one thing I really miss about the SLK 55 over the S2K, it's that last little blip of the throttle before getting out of the car, locking up and going into my house. That is, of course, the great thing about large 6/8 pot engines - great sounds ALL the time rather than just when thrashed! Still, the hard-edged raucous THRASH of the S2K engine between 6.5 and 9K rpm more than makes up!!
