check engine light reset
#@$#@$ check engine light's on. last time it happened, i took her into the dealer within about 20 miles and they jacked it into the computer (like 6 different ways? under the dash, under the hood....heck, i had a guy at autozone check the light on my odyssey and it took all of about 3 seconds) and after a half an hour came back, rolled their eyes, and told me to tighten the gas cap appropriately.
strangely enough, i crank that sucker well more than 3 clicks every time...
low and behold, about 100mi after the next fill up, on comes the light again. i've retightened the cap, put another tank of gas in, and run the car the theoretical three days it takes for the light to reset itself. no dice.
tried to swing by the dealer saturday, but got there about an hour late.
8kmi on the car. has sat for 99% of the time since late november.
thoughts?
f'ing check engine light is making me more sick to my stomach than that little ding my wife put her it last week...

All you have to do is unplug the negative battery cable, for 10 seconds or less, just enough to make sure there is no power in the system.
It will cause the ECU to do a diagnostic start, if it throws another CEL right away after that something else is wrong.
The two most common annoying CEL issues are the gas cap and oil cap being loose.
If you are sure you have your gas cap tight, and get another check engine light take it back to autozone and find out what the CEL code is?
If it is anything fuel related REPLACE THE GAS CAP.

plug the back up fuse, you can found those from ur interior fuse box. 3rd one down on the right, if I remember correctly. anyhow, the fuse is labelled backup. however, if something is wrong, the light will come back up
is there some sort of pressure test they can do on a gas cap (i know they do something of the sort when the cars are emissions tested.
you'd think the dealer would have told me which code was coming up, but they were very evasive. i wonder if they're just trying to avoid giving me a new gas cap.
wankers.
will do the battery disconnect trick ( as i don't want to get my fat but under the dash on the passenger side ) and see if the light doesnt come back on.
you'd think for $30k+ these things would have some sort of readout via the digital display. heck, my 84 pontiac fiero would give you a cadence of dings that you could map back to error codes by simply shorting 2 pins on the diagnostic plug...
