Default Speakers

I am looking to upgrade with minimal intrusiveness and modification. I have an AP1 with no tweaters and an aftermarket alpine deck. What speakers are you guys using to help boost the sound in your car? has anyone used the alpine in dash amp? Simple an lightweight while being cost effective is what I'm looking for. I'm not looking for a competition stereo just want to be able to hear my music at highway speed without distortion.

I have Polk Audio DB651 with stock tweeters. I wish it was a bit louder, but it does the job.

I just installed some 5 1/4 Kenwood Alpine Type S 2-Way components that I've had laying around for a while. Still running stock stereo but they made a noticeable difference where I can actually turn them up without completely distorting. Of course the crappy stock head unit still makes them sound a bit shitty but that's next on the list. I have 6 1/2s of the same series that I would like to throw in instead but I'll need a spacer to get them to fit so I'll be sticking with the 5 1/4s for now.

I've got some Alpine type R's (can't remember what size) installed in the roll hoops behind the seats. They do pretty well. Lets you still hear music while driving at highway speeds with the top down.

I had a typo here, they are Type R not Type S

Im a HiFi entusiast, so i fitted an Rockford 2x200w amp in the trunk and a set og gladen sql165 2 way speakers in my ap1. Had to cut out some of the door, but daaamn those speakers play loud. Also did full sound proofing.

If you want something cheap and decent, id say small amp under steering wheel, dynamat your doors and put in new speakers. Focal has a nice sound, but needs power to play loud (remember top down at speed). Go for something with SPL and trust me, sealing your doors with dynamat will help will help you with bass.

Focal has some nice 90 degree tweeter mounts you can put by the door handle if you want them out of the way. Having tweeter hidden by my knee was too annoying, the sound were too faded.
