Default Requirements for running at MMP

I'm planning on participating in an HPDE 1 course at Miller Motorsports Park on August 19th. It will be on the West Track and I've heard that an aftermarket roll bar is required to run on the track. Is this the case? I know that NASA doesn't require a roll bar for the S2000, but the track over rules NASA. If I have a hardtop can I use that instead of the roll bar?

If I do have to get a roll bar, what is everyone using. The forums say to go with the Hard Dog roll bar.

Thanks for the input.

When I have run at miller, the factory roll over protection is adequate. You don't need an aftermarket one. I believe you will need a tech inspection if you are running in a NASA event though. My buddy Jason owns Innovative Garage up there in salt lake county and he can do one for you. Hit me up if you want to get in contact with him. Really though, you just need a helmet and your car though. Good luck out there man. You are going to have a blast. From what I was told when I went out my first time on the west track, if you can get your lap times under 2:05 you are doing pretty good. My best lap time on west track that day was 1:54. So if you can work your way under that you should be doing pretty good for a first time. Have fun.

Thanks for the heads up Ian. This will be my first time really putting the car to its limit and going the HPDE route seems like the best way. I'm not sure if I have to do a NASA inspection since my laps aren't timed for any competition like lap battles but I'll look into it. Itll be fun to finally get on the track. I gotta get my tires mounted first.

For sure. Good choice on going with an instructor. I had my buddy Jason help me out and be my instructor my first time. Just having him with me to help me with lines helped me shave almost 15 seconds off my lap times by he end of the day.

Unless MMP has very recently changed the rules, factory rollover protection is fine. I believe the only group I've ever run with out there that required aftermarket roll bar was PCA.

Enjoy the track!
