Welcome aboard! Top replacement is not technically difficult but it is time consuming. Count on a day and a half for a detailed job. As noted lots of remove and replace. An installer, dealer or otherwise, will add $1,000 to $1,500 in labor on top of the cost of the top. There are 4 main threads here on the board which will tell you everything you need to know:
1) Forums/North American Central/ North Texas/ top blue stickies 3rd one down/"Top&Cost" by Clovis.
---Clovis has done more tops then anyone.....read his thread!, Thread gives cost and manufacturer recommendations.
2) Forums/Under the Hood/ top blue stickies threads 2,9, and 13 from the top. Info on retrofits, OEM, etc. Installs.

I have done 7 AP1 tops now in Utah and Nevada. I only use Robbins Tops. Tops Online gives free ship if you mention Clovis and S2Ki (see 1 above). Tops Online also list 3 "professional" shops in Utah, but I have no experience with them. Temps are dropping now and the task is harder in the cold (unless you have a well heated garage). Are you prepping for winter or planning for spring? AP1 or AP2? What year? Lots of choices ( I.e. Glass or plastic, defroster, color, cloth or vinyl). I love maintaining the breed. Let me know if you have any questions or need any help. The only "special tool" is a Rivet Puller which I have. If you DIY there are a few plastic fasteners you will consume as well. I have all the spare parts (AP1) you may damage. Feel free to PM me if you have top questions or would like to discuss.

P.S. I work for beer

I am deployed right now. I will be home in January . I might be able to secure us a lift in Utah. My wife's uncles dad has a lift in his garage. I could have it done in less then 5 hours, especially with a lift. What clutch are you going with?
