1/24 S2000 Build
So, I have tried some model kits in the past and always rushed them and essentially ruined them beyond repair.
Now that I have grown up a little (at least I like to think so) I thought i'd try my hand and building a 1/24 Tamiya S2000 model kit & essentially try my best to make it look like the one in my driveway. You can pretty much consider this my first attempt so feel free to offer any tips along the way. https://farm6.static.flickr.com/5065...dca9382f_z.jpg The Tools - Found a kit that had most of the things I needed https://farm6.static.flickr.com/5182...2140ff2c_z.jpg Half way through painting the rear suspension https://farm6.static.flickr.com/5229...2b03945c_z.jpg Mostly done, just needs another coat of paint. |
Ooh I want one. Where might I ask did you get this.
|
I want one too. Where did you buy it?
|
I found it on Ebay.. was only about $20, maybe even a bit less!
|
looks like you could use a bit more camber in the rear

Day 2 : Fitting Rear Suspension & Painting Chassis
I picked up some Yellow paint from the store I got the model building kit, thought it looked pretty close to the colour of my S2k but after spraying the chassis, it's not quite what I wanted. Oh well, thought i'd assemble the rear springs & trial fit it to the chassis until I get the correct colour from Tamiya. https://farm6.static.flickr.com/5230...8bb42a46_z.jpg https://farm6.static.flickr.com/5149...78daf337_z.jpg |
nice,
yellow really is the best colour ps, kenny_son screw off |
This looks like fun. Can't wait to see it finished.
|
you can buy the model from crystal mall, i have one as well. The damn suspension when you glue it to the body doesn't sit right, i had to shave some on one of the perches
|
Hrmm mine seems to be sitting okay at the moment. Maybe there was some excess plastic left on the spring when you removed it from the plastic sheet?
|
Day 3 - Front Suspension & Underbody
I picked up a better Yellow from Tamiya & Re-painted the chassis. I made a bit more progress tonight but also got a little frustrated by the glue eating the paint, fitting something backwards then having to dismantle and do again. BAH! Don't look too closely and it all seems to be coming together nicely. https://farm4.static.flickr.com/3616...bbf449fd_z.jpg |
^looking good! Also nice meeting you today Bobby!

The exhaust was the last touch to finish off the underbody. Definately in need of some touch ups & tidying now as I can look back and see all my mistakes, but they can wait, I am on to the body.
Not too sure if attaching the mirrors before or after spraying the body is a good idea, I guess i'll soon find out. https://farm6.static.flickr.com/5267...fa024574_z.jpg I learned it's best to apply a base layer of a light colour when using metallic colours. https://farm6.static.flickr.com/5024...d63ea4a1_z.jpg The full exhaust system https://farm3.static.flickr.com/2628...46b3a436_z.jpg The finished underbody - still needs some tidying up https://farm6.static.flickr.com/5021...fd293ba2_z.jpg The mirrors attached - now ready for prep & paint (scary) |
Finished off the body paint yesterday. (with the best colour of course)
Not sure now if I should clear coat or if using Tamita Polish will be best options?? https://farm6.static.flickr.com/5218...42363a09_z.jpg |
Hmmm, it looked better unpainted. :p j/k, hurry up and finish it already! :D
|
looks good, and nice work, i will keep checking this post
|
Have to send it off to Cam to get detailed ...,
|
Haha, this has been on hold a bit as I messed up the black window lining a few times and had to sand back & respray - so damn frustrating!!
|
Cam can just buff that sh*t out ..., lol
|
i have a tamiya model kit as well, but it comes with the hard top, vgs steering wheel and mugen mf-10s as well.
is yours the same kit? |
haha nah I don't think so, mines just a stock S2000 kit.
You should post your build up also, i'd be interested to see it! |
Exactly what color yellow did you use?
|
Do they make any AP2 model car kits...looking with no luck
|
Hobby Design just released aftermarket conversion parts to make a Tamiya AP1 to an AP2.
I just ordered mine from HLJ: http://www.hlj.com/product/HYDHD03-0359 http://www.hlj.com/product/HYDHD02-0309 And an F20.. though at 1/24 I'm not sure the differences will be obvious between an F20 and F22. http://www.hlj.com/product/HYDHD03-0283 |

Wow cool ap2 kit, I got a 1/24 Honda S2000 V-Spec (mugen) from Tamiya from a buddy years ago. Time to start building!
