Front plate relocation?
Anyone know of any front license plate relocation kits? Or have done it themselves? Pls post pics if possible..
Used the search engine and found this Steve's old car: https://www.s2ki.com/forums/index.php?showt...&#entry16368724 |
 i would be interested in this as well
|
When I had my Civic, I just bought a Cusco license plate relocation kit. Wasn't too pricey, worked really well, easy to install. I'm pretty sure it'd fit well on the S2K's bumper (In fact I'd like to do that mod sometime this year). I picked my old one up at Garage5 and installed it in my front yard haha.

just looking for ideas on how to mount the plate closer to the side of the bumper so it doesn't obstruct overflow ;)
edit: my bad, i guess the relocation kit you had helps prevent the obstruction of airflow |
if you had the license plate angled enough in the front grill, with space on the top and bottom of the plate (it would have to be quite angled though), do you think air flow would be enough to cool the rad nicely compared to just having it perpendicular to the ground and blocking most of the air?
just a general question, open to ppl's thoughts/ideas |
I am interested too. I had previously talked to steve about where he picked his up from and he told me an auto parts store.
Let me know what you find. |
i had one on the other day for a richmond drive, pretty mickey mouse, I will upload it.
|
haha^
i need one for the winter- cars going into paint in the fall and don't want to drill into bumper |
http://i419.photobucket.com/albums/p...00501-0720.jpg
the tape was to cover the bolts, then I kept on taping hahah, Umm also put bubble wrap behind it so it didn't scratch the paint, also stuck on with tape...white electrical tape:) I just used a bracket from my moms pedal bike reflector, and bolted it to one of screws under the bumper. |
as of now, I'm plate-less
|
haha nice-
a lil scared for richmond? |
ahha well I got a ticket last week, so I might just put the plate back on
|
You could try PWJDM front plate relocator, or fab out something similar at home depot.

could we make it?
$40~50 for piece of metal is just wrong.. I did make one for my integra back in the days and it was pretty easy. cut out sheet of metal, drill 4 holes(two for bumper, two for plate) and bend it 90deg. I don't have access to equip anymore, but if we do know someone, it would be piece of cake. As for mounting, Homedepot has very good quality metric stainless steel bolt, washer, nuts.. (10~20cent a piece) |
it would be awesome if someone could organize an s2ki front plate relocation kit group buy or DIY group meet thing...don't mean to sound gay.....just throwing it out there since there are so many members interested..
|
Interested. I've had my share of trouble from the police for no front plate.
Which reminds me. My court date is on the 12th and I can't make it. ****. Looks like I'll be paying for this one. :( |

What do you guys think of Koski's location as far as looks? I have been working on making up a bracket for that area that bolts up underneath but I am not sure about the look? Dont want to waste my time manufacturing something if it sucks!

http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y23...0/P1010880.jpg I like where I installed mine, 2 L-shape bracket and one bolt. Might interrupt air flow for you FF guys though. |

DIY group meet !!!!!
|
i need a better way to mount the plate to my bracket
|
I made a template that used two bolts under the bumper to give it more strength but wasnt sure if I wanted to mount it there until I got some opinions. It was really close to the location that you had yours at. If i have some time later this week I will try to make something out of aluminum and atach a bracket for a plate to that and see how it works.

what about this one?

Damnit I didn't want to have to pay that... |
Cam...you can call and cancel. You have a legit reason since you are out of town.
I've done it before and so have friends to delay the court date when I needed more time to get my full license type of thing (I had my N at the time). |

drill 2 holes on the bumper side and the license plate, and zip tie it. you don't block any airflow going to the rad/intefooler, so its a win win |

I have my plate placed in the center of my grill just like MC21's shots. No overheating issues. Although I have a Mishimoto rad... I'm sure even with OEM it would be just fine. I like the plate positioned the way Ray posted but I don't want to drill two holes in my bumper :p |

I've thought about this before as well. I think the tow hook plate relocator is a good idea, but it's way overpriced for what it is.
http://www.rhoplate.com/ |
^
I have the RHO plate relocator. They do have some discounted pricing for local guys. Just email them and ask. I don't know if it will fit the AP2 or not as the hole for the tow hook looks different? Here are a couple of pics of my car with the relocator http://i303.photobucket.com/albums/n...4/IMG_0027.jpg http://i303.photobucket.com/albums/n...4/IMG_0035.jpg |
wow that looks pretty good
|
FIY guys, went up for a drive to Porteau Cove last week with the license plate blocking the rad on the way up, and then i took it off on the way down.
Ambient temp dropped a bit from 7-8pm, but the overall temp difference was at least 6-8 degrees cooler, adjusting for ambient temp drop. On the way up, water temp reached 116C with the plate blocking the rad. On the way down, water temp max was 106C. Definitely should find a way to get the plate out of the grill area if possible |

Death blossom! Didn't know you had an amuse lip. Copycat =p jokes looks good =]
|
^
ah-haha. it's an Amuse lip molded into the bumper. I bought it like that. PS. no more cf hood. |
I bought a T bracket from Home Depot. Folded the bracket 90 degrees at the T. Drilled new holds on the bracket so that it would match the holes on the plate, and bolted the bracket to one of the bolts under the front bumper.
Total cost of parts from Home Depot was under $10, and the plate sits very close Koski. A bit more to the side of the car. Now I have the plate zapped to the lower bar on the grill. From the front, you can clearly see the plate and numbers, but doesn't block the radiator. |
any pics?
|
I don't have any pics of the bracket or plate on my car, but just imagine how Koski has his plates, but mine was a bit further to the side of the car.
|
If you go to a metal shop, I'm sure they'll be able to cut out a piece of metal for you, and then weld it to your tow hook. Basically they'll cut off the top part of the tow hook so that it's flat, and weld it to the piece of metal. That might cost a bit more though, but it'd be the same set up as Death blossom. I took got a warning the other day so I need to get it fix too.
|
I didn't feel like paying $60 for a "JDM" plate holder so i made my own
this one is a 20 degree angle http://www.fileupyours.com/files/243...20%284%291.JPG this one is around 35 - 40 degree angle http://www.fileupyours.com/files/243...20%281%291.JPG it looks fine to cops starring from a distance but the plate is on a pretty extreme angle... i made it in a metal shop using a sheet metal sheer and a metal brake...i'll probably finish it off by powder coating the aluminum black... |
We seen a great plate relocation on the green s that came up from Oregon this past weekend in victoria. His is electric, selects down for driving & resets for when stopped parked whatever.
|
Hey Woo, are those my gauges in your sig? Any chance I could buy em back from you? lol
|
Congrats Richee! :D

^Lol, I don't want to spoil it for you! ;)
|
I just had one custom made for my new AP2 bumper.
Buddy said it is easy enough that he's willing to make them for about $30 each if any s2ki member wants them. made with good grade thick aluminum plate. I'll post some pic later. |
Currently I just have mine ziptied to the front grill, I want to make one pretty soon that mounts to the side.
However.... mount it to where???? Im gonna try to stay away from drilling holes if i can... |
Have a look at this. ]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XnrfkJiCDRE
Expensive for the motorized ($150 US on sale from $180) but the non motorized isn't too outrageous ($60). |
I have seen this, one of the guys from Oregon that came up to the island this summer had one..., very cool.
Also one of the PACNW people had something at the show and shine in Abbotsford it connected to the tow hook and could be removed quite easily. |
that will never work on the underside of an s2000 bumper...it'll get ripped right off...even at stock height, the bumper occasionally touches the ground...
|
It was ricks accessories here's a link to his website http://www.ricks2k.com/
The one he had for where the towhook goes in is not on there the other one is. They were just testing the one for the towhook. You may send him a email if and when the other one will be available. |
^ Ray is marketing it I think.
|
My work place...Brian Jessel Autohaus sells those licence plate holders that attach to the towhook.
And i believe Speed Syndicate sells the motorized ones. |
towhoook? So you just take off the circle in the bunper to screw the mount in?
|
Yes special adapter that ensures the plate clears the bumper but ya you just screw it into the tow hook hole and so you can take it off or put it on pretty quickly.
